Start with the item and station you already have

Inspect the vehicle HUD and your inventory before collecting materials. Having an MK1 in a locker or backpack is not the same as installing it, and an installed module should not be counted as a loose ingredient for a later modification. The community reference says the upgrade panel is on the Seamoth's left side; controls and prompts vary by platform.

A ready-made MK1 is listed in the Aurora's Seamoth Bay, which is an alternative to crafting one. The Aurora has separate entry, door, power and survival hazards; consult the linked Aurora guide before attempting it and do not assume an unprepared visit is safe. This guide does not claim to have visited the ship or tested a route.

  1. Check the Seamoth's displayed maximum depth and look for a loose MK1 in inventory or storage.
  2. If you have an MK1, approach the vehicle's exterior left-side upgrade panel and open the slot interface using the displayed prompt.
  3. Transfer the MK1 into an available compatible slot, then inspect the vehicle's displayed depth limit before planning a deeper trip.
  4. If you have no module, choose between an appropriately prepared Aurora visit and the Moonpool-plus-console crafting route.
  5. Keep a depth and oxygen return margin; repair damage and assess hazards independently of module installation.

The three stations are not interchangeable

The Mobile Vehicle Bay builds the vehicle itself; it is not the interior upgrade fabricator. The Moonpool is a base room that accepts a separate Vehicle Upgrade Console. The fan database lists the console as an interior installation costing three Titanium, a Computer Chip and a Copper Wire. Build it in a compatible Moonpool with the Habitat Builder, then use the console's dedicated fabricator for MK1.

The standalone Modification Station is a different interior module. According to the cited MK2 and MK3 records, it upgrades an existing MK1 to MK2 and an existing MK2 to MK3. Possessing the station alone does not supply the consumed module, its other ingredients, or the console needed for the MK1 crafting route. Those records also link the later blueprints to acquiring or scanning the Vehicle Upgrade Console: check the PDA and actual Modification Station menu. Finding MK1 does not itself establish that the later blueprints are unlocked.

Budget one MK1 without counting the console twice

The cited fan database lists the MK1 recipe as one Titanium Ingot and two Glass at the Vehicle Upgrade Console fabricator. In the original-game data it lists ten Titanium per Ingot and two Quartz per Glass. Therefore, with none of those intermediates already owned, the MK1 alone requires ten Titanium and four Quartz. That is not the cost of the Moonpool, console, base power, travel or other tools.

Example: suppose your Moonpool and console already exist, and you have four loose Titanium and one completed Glass. Against the MK1 recipe, you still need six Titanium to make one Ingot and one more Glass, which needs two Quartz. Do not subtract the finished Glass again as if it were still two loose Quartz. If the console is not built, reserve its separate three Titanium, Computer Chip and Copper Wire too.

If the console or recipe does not appear

The SN Database's console page lists two console-fragment scans, while its landmarks and the older community Wiki describe an associated data box in several wreck areas. These acquisition descriptions do not agree on the precise unlock action. Check the actual PDA and interact with any relevant scannable fragments or data box you encounter; do not infer a guaranteed spawn or exact depth from this mismatch.

The database lists the Moonpool separately as two fragment scans and a build recipe of two Titanium Ingots, one Lubricant and two Lead. Unlocking or building a Moonpool is not proof that the console is installed. Scan progress, the available builder menu, a valid wall and base status are distinct checks. If seeking a wreck, choose an air-safe return plan and obey the Seamoth's current limit; a location listed by a reference is not a safe route recommendation.

Plan the next limit without stacking modules

The cited reference lists 200 m without a module, 300 m with MK1, 500 m with MK2 and 900 m with MK3. Modules do not stack; two MK1s do not provide a 400 m rating. For a hypothetical destination at 350 m, MK1's 300 m rating is insufficient for the vehicle to reach that depth undamaged: obtain a higher module or choose a different plan, and leave room for terrain and maneuvering.

The standalone Modification Station consumes the prior module as an ingredient for the next tier. The reference lists MK2 as MK1 plus a Plasteel Ingot, two Magnetite and Enameled Glass; MK3 separately consumes MK2, a Plasteel Ingot and three Ruby. Reserve the module and each additional part rather than treating both recipes as simultaneous. Limits concern the vehicle, not a promise that oxygen, power, threats or the entire journey are safe.

Before you play

  • Check the actual HUD and installed slot before crafting.
  • Use the Vehicle Upgrade Console's dedicated fabricator for a crafted MK1.
  • Keep Moonpool and console ingredients separate from the module budget.
  • Read the PDA for the actual console acquisition and Moonpool progress.
  • Keep a margin below the installed vehicle limit and plan oxygen and hazards separately.

Frequently asked questions

Can I find MK1 instead of crafting it?

The community references list one in the Aurora Seamoth Bay. Prepare for the Aurora separately; this article does not claim a verified route or that the trip is safe.

Why does the Modification Station not show a craftable MK1?

The cited original-game MK1 recipe is at the Vehicle Upgrade Console's fabricator; the standalone Modification Station is used for later tiers that consume earlier modules.

Can I stack two MK1 modules for 400 m?

No. The cited reference says depth modules do not stack. Verify the installed module and displayed maximum in your own build.

Does four Quartz include the Moonpool and console?

No. It only covers two Glass for the hypothetical MK1 when starting without Glass; base and console ingredients are separate.
