Inspect ware allocation and storage class
The official station manual describes three storage types: Container for many intermediate goods, Solid for solid resources and Liquid for liquids. It says automatic allocation is enabled by default and reserves space based on needs in the station; a single container module can be split across many wares. Low reserve space can therefore appear as a purchasing problem even when a station has storage capacity in general.
- Open the ware's row in the station's Logical Station Overview.
- Confirm the needed storage class exists on the station and is connected to the relevant module.
- Check whether Automatic Storage Allocation is on. If off, inspect the manually specified ware reservation and compare it with actual stock/demand.
- For a multi-ware station, consider whether many wares are fragmenting the shared container volume; do not assume total m³ belongs to one item.
- Use the current UI's red exclamation or ware details to see whether the station identifies a specific storage or supply issue.

Read automatic pricing and faction rules separately
The v5.10 manual says automatic prices move with stock: a ware in short supply tends toward a higher buy price, while plentiful product stock tends toward a lower sell price, relative to its allocated amount. It also documents a Restrict Trade with Other Factions control that limits a ware to the player's own stations and ships. These are independent of whether a ship is physically able to deliver.
- Read the current stock bar and the manual or automatic allocation for that particular ware.
- Check the automatic pricing state before moving either price slider.
- Check the per-ware faction-trade rule and whether your intended buyer/seller is allowed.
- Only after those checks, change one allocation or rule and observe the next offer/transfer.
- Avoid setting a price from a static guide without checking the current universe, stock and build.
| Unexpected behavior | Check in the station overview | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Buy price seems too high | Automatic price toggle and stock vs allocated amount | A fixed price regardless of fill level |
| Sell price seems too low | Product stock relative to its allocated capacity | That low price means the ware is unprofitable |
| NPC ships do not trade | Per-ware faction restriction and active offer | That every station is open to NPC factions |
| Ware is not replenished despite free station volume | Storage class, per-ware allocation, offer, funds and manager | That unused volume is automatically reserved for this ware |

Make one reversible change and observe
The X4 economy changes over time, and the old manual does not provide a live-market predictor. This decision aid should document current inputs and expected trading partners, not claim that a price is optimal.
- Record station build, ware, storage class, current/allocated stock, price mode, trade restriction and station account before editing.
- Choose the one variable that matches the symptom: allocation for capacity, trade rule for eligible partner, price setting for offer competitiveness.
- Wait for a new offer or delivery and compare with the baseline.
- If behavior differs from the 5.10 manual, use current official material and the UI over this dated reference.
- Post questions on community boards only with non-sensitive screenshots or text; label other players' suggestions as unverified.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my station's price keep changing?
The inspected v5.10 manual describes automatic buy/sell pricing tied to stock relative to allocation. Confirm whether auto pricing remains enabled in your installed build.
If I set a high price, will NPCs definitely buy?
No. The guide cannot predict live supply, demand or ship availability; also check the ware's faction trade restriction and active offer.
Does a large storage module guarantee enough room for each ware?
No. The manual says allocation can be split among many wares. Check the individual ware reservation and storage type.
