Choose the recovery branch before changing anything
The Remastered announcement says existing saves remain compatible and Cross Progression remains functional as before. The support page distinguishes two situations: a previously linked account, or a player who still has access to the old console and can upload a save now. It explicitly says support cannot retrieve a save when Cross Progression was never used and the old console is no longer accessible.
| What is true for this save | Safe next step | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Cross Progression was used before | Sign in to the same CD PROJEKT RED account on Remastered; check Load Game. | A different account with the same platform purchase is not necessarily the linked account. |
| No prior Cross Progression, but old console still works | Update the old game, link the account, create a new save and confirm its cloud icon. | A menu login alone does not upload the old save. |
| Never linked, old console unavailable | Read the support limit and check any legitimate local/platform backup you already control. | CDPR says it cannot assist with retrieving this case; avoid unofficial account or save-recovery claims. |

If the old console is still available, upload a new cloud save
CD PROJEKT RED's documented flow makes the cloud icon the visible checkpoint. The game uploads the latest saves after Cross Progression is enabled; on the destination, use the same account and Load Game. Keep the source console and its local save unchanged until the destination copy is visible.
- On the old console, note the platform and game version shown at the title screen; update to the latest platform patch available.
- Open My Rewards and connect the intended CD PROJEKT RED account if it is not already linked.
- In Options → Gameplay, verify Cross Progression is enabled; open Load Game and use its Cross Progression control if shown.
- Create a new manual save on the old console. Wait for the cloud icon to appear beside that save before switching devices.
- On Remastered, sign into the same CD PROJEKT RED account using My Rewards, then check Load Game for the uploaded save.
- If the save appears but will not load, compare the source and destination edition/DLC content before making another save.

Check expansion content if the cloud save appears but will not load
CD PROJEKT RED says the source and target need the same game content. Its example is asymmetric: a base-game save can load in Complete Edition, while a Complete Edition save cannot load in a base-game install that lacks the expansions/DLC. The September 2026 Remastered page says the expansions are included in the updated Complete Edition catalog; still verify the exact destination product and installed content on the platform account you use.
- Write down which edition and expansions were installed when the source save was created.
- On the destination platform, inspect the actual library/product page and installed add-ons; don't infer ownership from an update download.
- If the save originated with expansion content, install the same required content on the destination before retrying.
- If both clients appear to have matching content but the save still fails, capture platform, edition, version and the exact message for CD PROJEKT RED support.

A local checklist cannot retrieve or validate a save
The checker below only organizes facts you enter. It does not sign in, search a cloud account, recover a console save, verify an entitlement, or confirm that a save loads. Do not share passwords, recovery codes, private account email, or unredacted save files in a public discussion.

Before you play
- Identify whether Cross Progression was used for the missing save before the move.
- If the old console is available, preserve its local save and confirm a new uploaded save has a cloud icon.
- Use the same CD PROJEKT RED account on the source and destination.
- If a cloud save appears but fails to load, compare exact expansion/DLC content on both platforms.
- Never treat this browser checklist as account access or a save recovery tool.
Frequently asked questions
Can the checker find or restore a missing save?
No. It only organizes your answers. It does not connect to CD PROJEKT RED, a console, a store, or cloud saves.
What if I never used Cross Progression and no longer have my old console?
The current CD PROJEKT RED support page says it cannot assist with retrieval in that case. Check only backups you already control; do not trust third-party services claiming account access.
Can an expansion save load in base game?
CD PROJEKT RED says the destination needs the same game content. Its support example says a Complete Edition save cannot load in a base-game install missing its expansions/DLC.

- CD PROJEKT RED Support: Missing Saves After Updating to Remastered (Official)
The current support page says to use the same previously linked CD PROJEKT RED account; if the player still has access to the old console, enable Cross Progression there and upload a save. If they had never used it and no longer have the old console, support says it cannot assist with retrieval.
- CD PROJEKT RED Support: How to Use Cross Progression (Official)
Support requires the latest platform patch, the same CD PROJEKT RED account on both clients, and a newly created source save with a cloud icon. The destination uses My Rewards and then Load Game. The steps describe the supported workflow, not account-specific recovery.
- CD PROJEKT RED Support: Cross-Progression Saves Require Matching Game Content (Official)
Support states that the same game content must be present. A base-game save can load in Complete Edition, but a Complete Edition save cannot load on a base-game installation missing its expansions/DLC. Check the target platform's library; this guide cannot verify entitlement.
- CD PROJEKT RED: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered (Official)
The official page dates Remastered to September 29, 2026 and says existing saves remain compatible and Cross Progression continues to function. It describes the included expansions, qualifying free upgrades, platform scope, and the changed Complete Edition catalog. Storefront eligibility still needs to be checked in the player's own account.
