Preparing the interactive tool. Please wait; the guide and worked examples remain available below.
Start from the item's live Capacity
The official guide says each equipped mod occupies one slot, but an open slot does not mean the item has enough Capacity for another mod. Capacity is the budget and Drain is the cost. An example from the guide shows a 20-Capacity Excalibur already full with two mods costing 10 each, despite remaining open slots.
- Open Arsenal → select the exact Warframe, weapon or other item → Upgrade.
- Record the Capacity displayed for that item in its current state; do not copy a value from another equipment class or build.
- List the Drain shown on every equipped mod, including the changed value after its slot polarity is applied.
- Add the planned mod's displayed Drain and compare it with remaining Capacity before committing a rank-up or Forma.

Account for polarity before adding costs
Digital Extremes documents two effects: a matching polarity reduces a mod's Drain by 50%, rounded up; a mismatched polarity adds 25%. Those percentages can make a manually estimated total differ from the Upgrades screen, especially when mod ranks or polarity slots change. For a safe budget, enter the final Drain value that the game actually displays rather than having this page recreate every rounding case.
| Slot situation | Official guide says | Budgeting action |
|---|---|---|
| Matching symbol | Drain reduced by 50%, rounded up | Use the green/modified displayed cost |
| Mismatched symbol | Drain increased by 25% | Use the displayed modified cost; do not count the unmodified number |
| No polarity change yet | Drain depends on mod rank and item state | Read the current value from the target item |
| Capacity source changed | Catalysts/Reactors permanently double capacity for listed equipment categories | Re-open the item screen and record the new effective Capacity |

Use the checker as arithmetic, not a build optimizer
The local checker sums values already shown by the game. It intentionally does not tell you which mod to remove, whether a polarity is worth adding, or which item qualifies for a Catalyst versus Reactor. Digital Extremes lists Catalysts for weapons and Reactors for Warframes, Necramechs, Archwings, Companions, K-Drives and the Railjack Plexus; confirm the current item and offer in-game before spending.
- Copy the displayed Capacity and each current/planned Drain into the checker below.
- If it reports a fit, compare every entry once more against the same item's Upgrades screen; changing a mod rank or polarity changes the budget.
- If it reports an overage, decide in-game whether to change the mod set, rank, polarity or capacity source. This page makes no recommendation about a particular build.
- After any change, reopen the Upgrades screen and verify the final displayed total. The live game, not the calculator, determines whether the equipment accepts the build.

Report a useful capacity question
Players can compare notes in the official community forum, but a discussion is not a verified compatibility result. Include equipment name, platform, displayed build, mod ranks, polarity symbols and the Drain values shown in the target screen. Do not share account credentials or claim a calculation is a tested build.

Before you play
- I used the exact equipment's live Capacity.
- I counted displayed Drain for every equipped/planned mod.
- I did not confuse open slots with spare Capacity.
- I checked the finished setup in-game before spending resources.
Frequently asked questions
Can an open slot still be unusable?
Yes. The official guide distinguishes mod slots from Capacity; the total Drain must fit within Capacity.
Does this tool calculate polarity effects?
No. Enter the effective Drain displayed in the game after matching or mismatching polarity. The tool only adds the values.
Does every item use a Reactor?
The official guide lists different eligible categories for Reactors and Catalysts. Check the target item and current in-game Upgrade options rather than assuming one item applies to every gear type.
