Co-op and platform pairing checker

Choose a mode and enter two platforms. This checker only recognizes pairs explicitly described by poncle's current FAQ; an “unconfirmed” result means verify with the game's own lobby/support, not that the pair is impossible.

Pair is within an ecosystem pair explicitly named by poncle.

Online session checks

4 checklist item(s) remain.

Runs only in this browser page. No account, save, lobby, purchase, DLC ownership, or network connection is queried. Pair support can change with platform updates; recheck poncle's current FAQ.

Choose one co-op mode for the session

Poncle treats online and local co-op as separate modes: a session uses one or the other. Online players each need a device and copy, while local co-op uses the same device and the supported local inputs. Set this expectation before troubleshooting controllers or invites.

GoalUseImportant boundary
Friends playing from separate devicesOnline co-opUp to four players; platform pairing is ecosystem-limited
People sharing one device/couchLocal co-opInput device per player is needed; exact support depends on platform
One local pair plus remote friends in one sessionDo not assume hybrid playPoncle says online and couch modes cannot be combined in the same session

Compare against the explicit cross-play list

The FAQ does not say that every PC storefront and every console can mix. It names Xbox Series X|S with PC through Microsoft Store/Game Pass, and PlayStation 4 with PlayStation 5. It explicitly says cross-play is not currently available between different ecosystems. The tool on this page marks only those declared pairs; an unconfirmed pair needs a current in-game/platform check.

Know whose progress and stage selection matter

Poncle says players select characters unlocked on their own saves, while the host's save determines stages and items available during the run. Group pickups, gold, and achievements are shared during the session; each player chooses at the end whether to save that progress to their own file. This makes the host's progress relevant to content access, but it does not merge player saves.

  1. Pick a host whose save has the stage/content the group intends to play.
  2. Have each guest use a character they personally unlocked.
  3. At run end, each player separately decides whether to accept/save progress to their own file.
  4. If the host disconnects, expect the session to end; a disconnected client cannot rejoin mid-run according to the FAQ.

Worked preflight

Example: one friend is on PS5 and another on Xbox. Both copies may be fully updated, but the official FAQ still places the pair in different ecosystems. Treat the mismatch as a platform-pair issue, not a missing unlock or bad invite. By contrast, PS4 and PS5 are explicitly paired in the FAQ; then check invitation, version and host state in the game.

Before you play

  • We selected either online or local co-op, not a hybrid assumption.
  • Each online player has their own device and copy.
  • The platform pair is named by the current FAQ or is being treated as unconfirmed.
  • The host has the desired stage/content; guests have their intended characters unlocked.
  • We understand host disconnect ends a run and clients cannot rejoin mid-run.

Frequently asked questions

Can Steam play online with Xbox?

The current FAQ says cross-ecosystem play such as console and Steam is not available. Xbox with Microsoft Store/Game Pass PC is the named PC pair.

Can we play couch and online co-op at the same time?

No. Poncle describes them as separate modes and says a session uses only one.

Does the host's save unlock characters for the guests?

No. Players use characters unlocked on their own saves; the host's save determines stage/item availability for that run.
