Low-risk recovery order

  1. Do not overwrite the affected save. Make a copy of the save and relevant userdata before changing the mod list; the developer manual explains where user data lives.
  2. In the load dialog, find the red-triangle entry; Urban Games notes a normal text search may not find missing mods.
  3. For a Workshop mod, open its Workshop page and check whether it still exists; if appropriate, unsubscribe and subscribe again to restore it.
  4. Check dependencies and the mod description before concluding the content itself is gone.
  5. Only if restoration is impossible, use SELECT OPTIONS in the load dialog to deactivate the specific missing mod or activate a replacement; understand that unsupported models may become dummy cubes.
  6. Avoid removing script mods casually, then save to a new copy only after reviewing the loaded map and vehicles.

Backup and help boundary

Urban Games warns Steam's static game backup does not include userdata and saves; copy the appropriate userdata separately. If the problem persists, preserve the log before restarting because the manual says logs can be reset, and include the storefront, exact missing mod and steps when seeking help. Community fixes are not a substitute for a backup.

Before you play

  • I made a separate copy of the save/userdata before loading.
  • I found the missing item by its red-triangle marker.
  • I checked Workshop availability and required dependencies.
  • I understand possible dummy assets and scripted-mod risks.
  • I kept the original save untouched until the replacement loaded safely.

Frequently asked questions

Should I remove every missing mod to get the save open?

No. Urban Games recommends checking whether the mod can be restored and warns removing mods—especially scripts—can affect stability or save integrity.

Will missing mod objects return automatically if I reinstall later?

The manual warns dummy replacements may not automatically restore the correct model once a save has been overwritten with them.

Does Steam backup include my save?

Urban Games says the Steam static-file backup does not include userdata/settings and saves; back those up separately.
