Establish the authoritative world
The developer archive records historical multiplayer save and dedicated-server changes. Those changes make build and server type important context when progress appears missing. Do not infer that the host's world file and each client's character progress are interchangeable.
| Session | Confirm before loading | Keep separate |
|---|---|---|
| Peer-hosted co-op | Host account, world/slot, last session and build | Host world progress versus each player's own state |
| Dedicated server | Server name, server build, save slot and backup time | Server save from local single-player slot |
| Different player invited | Whether the host is loading the intended existing world | A new world created because an old save looked missing |
| After patch/update | Game and server build, last successful save time | Old historical patch instructions from current behavior |

Run a safe continuity check
Use the game's current in-session save flow and preserve backups before copying or replacing any files. If the world is hosted by another player, ask that host to verify the slot and last save rather than creating a competing copy.
- Ask the host to identify peer-hosted versus dedicated-server play and the exact world/slot name.
- Record platform and displayed game/server build, especially after a patch.
- Have the owner verify the intended world is selected before inviting others; do not create a replacement world as a test.
- Confirm each player follows the in-game save/quit flow for the current session type.
- Use the server host's documented backup/export process before any file move; retain the original copy.
- If progress is missing, compare the current build and last known save timestamp, then consult the relevant current Endnight notice or support route.

Frequently asked questions
Does an old Endnight announcement tell me the current save path?
No. It only documents the specific historical changes in that release; verify current platform and server instructions.
Can a client replace the host's world save?
Do not assume the files are interchangeable. Confirm the host/world owner and use the current platform/server backup process.
Does this tool access my co-op world?
No. It is a local worksheet and cannot query a host or read files.
Sources & revision notes
Editorial revision: November 7, 2026; not a gameplay test date. The reference notes identify source limits and version differences.
- Endnight Games: The Forest official updates (Official)
Developer archive includes historical PC and PS4 updates. The linked updates document version-specific fixes, including save/stability and multiplayer-server changes; they are not current troubleshooting steps unless the player is on that same build/platform.
- Endnight on Steam: The Forest multiplayer save and server changes (Official)
Historical developer announcement describing changes to multiplayer saves and dedicated servers. It proves those systems have had version-specific changes, not how every current or legacy server behaves. Verify the installed build and keep a backup before migration.

External player-generated Steam discussions. Server type, host/client save, platform and game build matter; anecdotes are not verified instructions. Do not run deletion commands or overwrite a world based on a post.
November 7, 2026: first publication, framed archived multiplayer-save notices as historical version context and added a host/slot safety check. No co-op world was tested.
