Treat patch compatibility as a dated check
Endnight's archived notes include releases where the dedicated-server tool and game build both needed updating followed by a restart. That is evidence that server compatibility has been patch-sensitive—not a blanket rule that every modern/legacy error is fixed by restarting.
| Check | Record | What it can rule out |
|---|---|---|
| Game build | Displayed version for each client | Clients on different releases |
| Server build | Dedicated tool/package version and update time | Server not updated with its matching release |
| Restart | Whether server fully stopped and relaunched after update | A stale running process after files changed |
| Symptom | Not listed, timeout, rejected, disconnect; timestamp | Avoids treating every join issue as a port problem |
| Save safety | Backup timestamp and world/slot | Prevents risky migration or overwrite while diagnosing |

Diagnose without destroying the world
Before reinstalling server files or forwarding ports, make a backup through the current host's documented process. Change one variable at a time and keep a rollback note, especially if the server runs on a rented host or separate machine.
- Record host OS, dedicated-server tool source, server build, client builds and platform.
- Check the latest Endnight announcement for the exact release and server instructions; do not rely solely on an old patch post.
- Stop the server cleanly using the provider's current control, back up its world, then update/restart only as documented.
- Test one client and preserve the exact error, time and server listing state.
- If it still fails, compare the current firewall/provider instructions; do not publish credentials, public IPs or admin passwords.
- Roll back only from the retained backup if the new setup worsens the issue; escalate with build/log evidence.

Frequently asked questions
Do Endnight's old patch notes apply to every current server?
No. They are historical notes; inspect the notice for the build you are actually running.
Will restarting fix every server join problem?
No. It only addresses certain stale/update states and is not a universal network diagnosis.
Can this worksheet inspect server logs?
No. It formats only details you type; it cannot connect to the server or read files.

Historical developer announcement describing changes to multiplayer saves and dedicated servers. It proves those systems have had version-specific changes, not how every current or legacy server behaves. Verify the installed build and keep a backup before migration.
