Validate the build loop before committing
Nearby chest crafting can remove hauling steps, but the note does not publish a measurable radius or say every chest/item is eligible. Confirm the current in-game behavior instead of clearing storage or dismantling an old base.
- Record your platform, game version, world/session and friendly-fire setting.
- Place one low-cost build piece near a chest containing its materials; keep the same item in personal inventory as a control only if the game UI lets you compare sources safely.
- Observe whether the recipe consumes nearby chest contents and note which container/item was used. Do not assume all stations or crafting recipes share that rule.
- In co-op, check the host's world and friendly-fire settings before inviting players to build or test damage permissions.
- Use a low-value test structure in your own encampment. Do not use another player's protected base to test the boundary.
- Only after the small test succeeds should you plan storage relocation; maintain a separate inventory count for materials not yet confirmed accessible.
| Question | Small reversible test | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Can the builder fetch nearby materials? | Try one cheap piece with a known chest item | No official distance/range value cited |
| Will a co-op guest damage structures? | Read host friendly-fire setting and current UI | Patch note fixes one setting combination, not every permission system |
| Should I move all storage now? | No; verify a small recipe first | Guide does not know your chest contents or save |

Make a co-op build report
Do not infer a player griefing event from one failed interaction until you have the session owner, permission setting and build recorded. Keep the report factual.
- State who owns the Tree Encampment and who hosted the session.
- Record the friendly-fire setting and exact structure interaction.
- List the build piece and which resources were in a nearby chest vs personal inventory.
- Compare your exact build with the developer note before asking the community.

Before you play
- I tested one cheap build before changing the base layout.
- I did not invent a chest-fetch radius.
- I recorded host and friendly-fire settings for co-op.
- I did not test permissions on another player's base.
Frequently asked questions
How close must the chest be?
The update notes say nearby chests can supply building resources but do not specify a universal distance. Measure behavior in your current game with a small test.
Does friendly-fire off protect every object in every mode?
The patch describes a fix for damaging another player's Tree Encampment structures with friendly fire off. It is not a full server-permission matrix.
