Treat the blue flame as a checkpoint, not a save button

The publisher FAQ says Sekiro periodically autosaves and does not offer manual saving. FromSoftware's manual says the prior data is overwritten during autosave. You cannot create a separate manual snapshot from the pause menu.

Use the documented quit sequence

FromSoftware warns that leaving without selecting Quit Game may not resume at the exit state. Because autosaves overwrite prior data, do not treat abrupt termination as a way to preserve a branch.

  1. Finish the current safe action and wait until the blue autosave indicator disappears.
  2. Open Pause Menu, choose Settings, then select Quit Game as the manual directs.
  3. Return to the title menu and use Continue or Load Game the next time you play.
  4. If the game freezes, follow Activision's restart-from-last-save-point guidance; do not expect an unsaved action to persist.
  5. If repeated crashes occur, record platform and the last visible autosave indicator, then use official support instead of manipulating save files.

Sources & revision notes

Editorial revision: November 7, 2026; not a gameplay test date. The reference notes identify source limits and version differences.

  1. Activision Support: Sekiro FAQ and save behavior (Official)

Activision says Sekiro periodically autosaves, shows a blue flame indicator, has no manual save feature, and after a freeze/crash resumes from the last save point. The support page lists legacy console/PC availability; it does not describe every storefront's cloud retention.

  2. FromSoftware: Sekiro web manual (PC controls and safe quit) (Official)

FromSoftware's web manual says the previous data is overwritten at autosave and advises ending through Pause Menu > Settings > Quit Game; exiting another way may not resume from the exit state. The linked manual is the Windows edition; menu names can vary slightly by platform/language.

  3. Sekiro Steam Community Discussions (Community)

External player-written PC/Steam discussions, not official support. Never use a community save replacement without verifying its origin and preserving your own profile.

What changed in this revision
