Separate party compatibility from saved progress
Ubisoft describes both cross-play and cross-progression, but they are not interchangeable. Cross-play controls who can join a match; cross-progression links eligible progress to the same Ubisoft account. Ubisoft's article says a save on another platform requires the same linked account and the game to have been launched on both platforms.
| Goal | Check first | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Join a friend | Both platform families, current cross-play setting and invite route | That a shared save alone guarantees party or Ranked compatibility |
| See progress on another platform | Same Ubisoft account linked to each platform and launch on both | That a different Ubisoft account can merge progress |
| Keep a competitive rank | Which matchmaking pool/platform the rank belongs to | That console and PC ranks are one shared value |

Check the console default before troubleshooting invites
Ubisoft says cross-play is active by default on PC and disabled by default on consoles. On console, its documented menu path is Options → General → Crossplay Matchmaking → On. Xbox may also expose a console-level setting. If a friend invite fails, record the platform pair and current setting before unlinking accounts or reinstalling.
- Write down the exact platform and edition for each player; distinguish console from PC.
- On console, check Options → General → Crossplay Matchmaking and enable it only if you want cross-play.
- Confirm both players are using the intended Ubisoft accounts and can receive invitations under their platform privacy settings.
- For progress on a second platform, verify the same Ubisoft account is linked and launch Siege on both platforms.
- If the account already has progress on multiple identities, stop before linking/unlinking; use Ubisoft Support to avoid unintended account changes.

Rank and community questions need season context
Ubisoft's cross-play help article says PC and console Ranked pools/ranks remain distinct in the described setup. Ranked 3.0 also introduced season-sensitive placement and squad rules, while Ubisoft's competitive-access article lists clearance, operator, ownership, account-security and platform requirements. Include season, region, platform and mode in a community question, and use Ubisoft's current support page for account-specific decisions.

When an invite still fails
A correct cross-play toggle is only one gate. An invite may still be blocked by platform privacy, an outdated client, a different Ubisoft identity, parental settings or a temporarily unavailable service. The local checker cannot test the lobby. Keep both players on the current update, verify invite permissions on each platform and use Ubisoft Support before changing account links.
- Ask both players to state platform family, game version and cross-play setting.
- Verify Ubisoft identity separately from the console/platform store identity.
- Check platform-level privacy and invite permissions on both sides.
- Only after those reversible checks should you ask support about a persistent account-link or eligibility issue.

Before you play
- I separated the goal of joining a match from accessing progression.
- I recorded each player's platform family and current cross-play setting.
- I checked that the same Ubisoft account is linked before expecting shared progression.
- I treated PC and console Ranked pools/ranks as distinct unless current Ubisoft support says otherwise.
- I did not unlink or merge accounts based on a forum post.

- Ubisoft Help: Cross-play and cross-progression in Rainbow Six Siege (Official)
Ubisoft says Siege supports cross-play and automatic cross-progression, with console cross-play settings off by default and PC cross-play on by default. Accessing a save on another platform requires the same linked Ubisoft account and launching on both platforms. Rank pools remain separate for console and PC matchmaking.
- Ubisoft Help: Competitive modes requirements (Official)
Ubisoft currently lists edition ownership, connection, Clearance Level 50 and 10 Attackers plus 10 Defenders; console and PC have different account-security/phone requirements.
