Clear account and feature gates first
Pokémon Support's current Trading FAQ says Pocket trades are friend-only. It lists an active trade, the other player's suspended trade offers, or the friend's trading feature not yet unlocked as reasons an offer may not be available. The FAQ states the trade feature unlocks 14 days after starting the game; because the app controls the actual state, treat a date calculation as an estimate and check the in-game button.
The same FAQ says you cannot trade with several people simultaneously: complete or cancel the active trade before starting another. Cancelling restores the consumed stamina, cards and items under the FAQ's description; don't cancel unless you intend to end that offer.
| Check | What current Pokémon Support says | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Are you friends? | Only friends can trade | Confirm the correct friend in Social Hub |
| Has the feature unlocked? | Unlocks 14 days after starting the game | Check the trade screen; local date arithmetic is only an estimate |
| Is there another active trade? | Only one trade at a time | Complete or cancel it before opening another |
| Can your friend receive offers? | They may suspend trade offers in settings | Ask them to check their trade-offer setting |
| Is trade temporarily unavailable? | Trading may be suspended during high activity | Wait and retry; check whether the current offer expired |

Check that the offered cards actually match
- Open Social Hub > Trade and select the intended friend; make sure the offer is for the correct Pocket account.
- Compare the rarity of the two offered cards. Pokémon Support says cards shown as eligible for a specific trade must be the same rarity.
- If one card has flair, verify the other has flair too; if one has a gold frame, verify the other also has a gold frame. The game filters eligible cards on the selection screen.
- Open the in-game question-mark help > Detailed trade list to check whether the specific cards are currently tradable. Eligibility is not safely inferred from an old expansion or rarity chart.
- Before the final confirmation, read the Shinedust cost displayed in-game. Pokémon Support says it depends on card rarity and is shown before completing the trade.
- Only then accept/confirm if the partner, card, cosmetics, and displayed cost all match your intention.

Worked diagnosis: the card is on a wishlist but not selectable
A wishlist is a request signal, not proof that a card is eligible in the current trade. First compare the two card rarities, then flair and gold-frame status if relevant. Next, inspect the current Detailed trade list in Pocket; the FAQ explicitly directs players there to verify card eligibility. Finally compare the displayed Shinedust cost before completing the exchange.
If the offer button itself is gray rather than one card being absent, distinguish a temporary service suspension from a card-specific restriction. Pokémon Support says trade can be temporarily suspended when many players are trading; if an offer expires while suspended, cards and items return and consumed stamina is restored.
| Symptom | Most useful check | Don't assume |
|---|---|---|
| Friend's offer button unavailable | Friend status, feature unlock, active trade, friend's offer setting | That the other person is not a friend or is blocked |
| Wanted card absent from selection | Same rarity, matching flair/frame, Detailed trade list | That wishlist visibility guarantees tradability |
| Trade button is gray for multiple actions | Possible temporary trade-service suspension; retry later | That reinstalling or changing account settings will restore availability |
| Unsure whether to accept | Review partner, exact card variant and Shinedust shown in confirmation | A fixed cost from an old article or forum post |

Use the local preflight, then trust the app's final screen
The local checker can estimate the 14-day wait from a start date you type and organize the friend/offer/card checks. It cannot see your player level, friend list, trade history, current card inventory, server status, eligible expansion list, Shinedust balance or final cost.
Pocket's support guidance is updated and the feature can evolve. In-game Detailed trade list and About trade rules screens are authoritative for the card and cost presented now.

Frequently asked questions
How long after starting Pokémon TCG Pocket can I trade?
The Pokémon Support Trading FAQ updated October 29, 2026 says trading unlocks 14 days after starting the game. Check the live in-game state; the local date estimator cannot read your account.
Can I trade with someone who is not my friend?
No. Pokémon Support says Pocket trades are only with friends.
Why can I not select a card my friend wants?
Check whether that card is currently in the in-game Detailed trade list and whether rarity, flair, and gold-frame matching conditions are satisfied.
Are old trade-token requirements still current?
Do not rely on old token guides. The current Support FAQ directs you to the in-game About trade rules screen and says the Shinedust cost is displayed before completion.
Can I trade several cards with different people at once?
No. The current FAQ says you must complete or cancel the active trade before trading with someone else.
