First decide whether you are finding a species or a known resident
A missing entry and a befriended Pokémon whose location you lost are different problems. Nintendo's tips point to Habitat Dex filters for finding which Pokémon or specialties are in an area and Pokédex Search for tracking a selected Pokémon. Do not infer that a species is absent from the entire game just because it is not visible in the current town.
| What you know | Start here | What the result means |
|---|---|---|
| You want to find a habitat or a specialty | Habitat Dex; press Y for filters | Narrows the search to documented area/specialty filters; it is not an all-items spawn guarantee |
| You know the Pokémon and want its current location | Pokédex → select it → Search | Begins Nintendo's documented location-search flow |
| The known Pokémon is away from its home | Talk to other Pokémon; ask a Fly/Teleport specialist; consider Honey at its home | Offers directions, direct travel help, or a documented return-home option |

Use the Habitat Dex to narrow the search
The Habitat Dex is the better starting point when the question is 'which Pokémon could this area support?' Nintendo says its filters can identify Pokémon with particular specialties, those in the current area, and habitats to build. Treat its in-game list as the source of truth for your current save rather than importing an unsourced habitat spreadsheet.
- Open the Habitat Dex and select the Y-button filter described by Nintendo.
- Filter by the specialty or current area that matches your goal.
- If you are trying to attract a species, use the in-game habitat information to check whether the required habitat is built; this guide does not supply or guess a complete recipe table.
- Revisit the filtered in-game list after making a change; do not assume an appearance timer or guaranteed spawn unless the game itself states one.

Track a befriended Pokémon that wandered out of view
Nintendo documents a second path for a known Pokémon: select it in the Pokédex and press + to search. While searching, talk to other Pokémon for directions. A Pokémon with the Fly or Teleport specialty can take Ditto directly to the selected Pokémon. This helps with location; it does not create a missing habitat or guarantee the resident is currently present.
- Open the Pokédex, select the Pokémon you are trying to find, and choose Search using the button shown by the game.
- Talk to Pokémon you encounter while the search is active and follow their direction clues.
- If you have befriended a Fly or Teleport specialist, speak with it and use the offered travel help.
- If your goal is to return the resident home rather than visit it, apply Honey to its home as described by Nintendo, then check the Pokémon's location again.

Keep the conclusion proportional to the evidence
The official tips describe useful search and return features, not a complete list of habitat combinations, spawn frequency, time-of-day rules or event exceptions. If the Habitat Dex does not show the expected entry, capture the exact area, filter, habitat text and software version for your own notes. Player discussions can suggest what to compare, but verify each requirement in your game and Nintendo's current documentation.

Before you play
- Decide whether the target is an undiscovered habitat entry or a known resident whose location is lost.
- Use the Habitat Dex filters for area/specialty; use Pokédex Search for a selected Pokémon.
- Try directions, Fly/Teleport help, or Honey at the Pokémon's home only for the documented location/return problem.
- Record the exact in-game habitat text and version before comparing an unverified community report.
Frequently asked questions
Does Pokédex Search tell me every habitat requirement?
Nintendo's tips describe selecting a Pokémon and searching for its location. They do not present that feature as a complete habitat-recipe database.
Can Honey help with a Pokémon I cannot find?
Nintendo documents using Honey on a Pokémon's home to get it to return there. It is a return-home aid for a known resident, not a universal species-spawn item.
Are player forum habitat lists verified?
No. Player posts can be useful leads, but they are user-generated. Compare the exact game version and in-game Habitat Dex wording before relying on them.
