Evidence-backed case analysis
Case: a worker problem that a better Pal will not fix
Officially documented fixes · not independently reproduced
- Version boundary
- Palworld v1.0.4. Applies to the named patch entries, not every base problem or every later build.
- Starting conditions
- An existing starter base with respawned natural trees, or a facility whose worker assignment does not match the display. Record your platform, client build, server build and mods before comparing.
Your starter Pal has the right work skill but the job still does not happen. Should you catch a replacement, rebuild the base, or check the game version first?
What the source actually records
| Documented problem | Developer-reported result in v1.0.4 |
|---|---|
| Logging did not occur on trees that respawned inside a base. | Listed as fixed. |
| Worker Pal assignments were not correctly reflected in Base Facilities. | Listed as fixed. |
| The axe/pickaxe mission could stall when the tools were owned or equipped before accepting it. | Listed as fixed. |
| Work Suitability explanations were needed in the interface. | Details added to Pal status and Palpedia. |

Our analysis: what to change first
Treat these as three different symptoms. An assignment display mismatch is not proof that production has stopped. An idle worker beside a respawned tree is not proof that the Pal is a poor choice. A stuck tutorial objective is not evidence that your entire save is broken.
The useful decision is whether the symptom matches a documented issue before you spend time replacing workers. After that, judge the base by completed work and delivered materials, not by how busy its animations look.
A procedure you can check on your own save
This is GamerWin's proposed verification procedure. The checks below describe what to observe, not results we have already obtained.
Record the client version and, in multiplayer, ask the host for the server version. Back up the world before an update; on a shared server, arrange the update with its owner.
Check: Keep the exact version strings, platform and mod list. If they do not match the documented build, this is not yet a v1.0.4 reproduction.
Pick one existing worker and one job. Inspect its work-suitability details. For the logging symptom, distinguish a respawned natural tree from a logging facility; they are not the same test.
Check: Record the worker, suitability, exact target and whether it is within the base. If the Pal lacks the required skill, fix the assignment first.
With the worker fed and able to reach the target, watch the job without manually adding materials. Note the assignment display, the actual work, any ground drops and the destination storage count separately.
Check: A visible work cycle with drops but no delivery points toward hauling or storage. No work at all is a different failure. Use a before/after count, not a guessed production rate.
If an older build and symptom match the patch, update through the platform's normal update mechanism when available, then repeat the same worker/target check. If already updated, reassign just that worker and repeat once before changing the layout.
Check: A positive result is the intended job completing and its output reaching storage. Changing worker, location and build together cannot tell you which change helped.
For a stalled axe/pickaxe objective, capture the mission text and inventory separately, check the patch, and recheck the objective after the update. Do not discard valuable tools or restart the world as the first diagnostic step.
Check: Record whether the objective actually advances. If not, retain the save and report the exact pre-existing-tool condition; a patch note is not proof that your save recovered.
If it still fails
| Observed symptom | Next diagnostic step |
|---|---|
| Worker is still idle on the patched build | Check suitability, reachable target, current job and worker condition. Keep a short recording if the same symptom remains. |
| Work happens but storage does not increase | Follow the dropped item. Check transport capacity, access and storage rather than replacing the producer. |
| Assignment looks wrong but output arrives | Document the interface mismatch separately from production. Rebuilding productive stations is not the first step. |
| Mission is still stuck | Keep the mission/inventory evidence and build details. Do not report it as solved merely because the release notes list a fix. |
Case conclusion
The recorded outcome is an official fix declaration for specific v1.0.4 issues. Our practical recommendation is to rule those issues in or out before changing your starter team. A successful run on your save still needs an observed completed job or advanced mission.
Keep your own evidence: blank observation sheet
Copy this into your notes. Leave unavailable values blank; a missing measurement is more useful than an invented one. Remove personal information before sharing.

Your party is not the same as your workforce
The first decision is where a Pal needs to be. A useful worker travelling with you is not simultaneously filling a base slot. Before a trip, look at the Pals assigned to the base, not just the five companions in your party. Conversely, do not remove your only worker for a critical job merely because it is your highest-level combat option.
Use the table as a shopping list of missing capabilities, not a requirement to catch perfect individuals. The suitability icon matters more than the exact name: if you already own a different Pal that can do the job, test it before going on a long capture trip.
| Job to cover | Early example | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Mining and carrying drops | Cattiva | Handiwork, Gathering, Mining and Transporting are available, but one Pal cannot perform all jobs at once. |
| Planting and wood | Lifmunk | Planting, Gathering and Lumbering help a starter base; multiple jobs can compete for its time. |
| Heat-dependent production | Foxparks | Kindling fills a different gap from planting or hauling. Check that the station actually requests it. |
| Watering | A captured Pal with Watering suitability | Neither the above planting nor kindling worker replaces a missing watering worker. |
| Travel and fighting | A separate party suited to your next trip | Check health, skills and the next destination rather than copying a universal ranking. |

Place a small working base before expanding
Choose flat, accessible ground within the buildable area and leave room around the Palbox. Put one food-production chain, storage and a crafting station down first. A dramatic cliffside view is a poor trade if workers cannot reach the stations. This is a layout recommendation, not a claim that one map coordinate is best on every world.
Keep storage beside the job producing the items. Leave a clear walking lane between food, beds and work. Watch an entire planting-to-harvest cycle before building a second copy: duplicates do not solve a missing skill. Reserve a space for later stations rather than filling every gap with decoration.

Find the stalled step
When production stops, identify the last visible successful action. That turns a vague 'bad base' into a specific adjustment. Do not replace every Pal at once; otherwise you will not know which change helped.
| Symptom | Check first | Next change |
|---|---|---|
| Plantation never progresses | Which suitability the current stage requests | Assign that worker and observe the same plantation. |
| Finished materials stay on the ground | Transporter availability and allowed storage | Free a transporter from another job; move storage closer. |
| A worker walks but never arrives | Obstructions, stairs and station clearance | Move the station to an open test area before replacing the Pal. |
| Works while watched, fails after a trip | Food, health, assignment and accessibility on return | Record the first problem you see, then repeat a short trip. |
| Crafting competes with harvesting | How many jobs share the same worker | Add coverage for the busy role instead of another unrelated fighter. |

A practical next-session plan
Suppose your stone arrives but berry production stalls. Keep the mining worker, inspect the plantation stage, and fill the missing watering or harvesting job. Only after a full crop reaches usable storage should you enlarge the food area. This avoids spending a whole session improving stone output while everyone remains hungry.
For travel, choose one achievable objective: unlock a nearby fast-travel point, gather a missing material, or find a missing work skill. Return with that objective completed and compare the same production chain. 'More Pals' is not a measurable improvement; a completed meal or material batch is.
- List the next item or base upgrade you need.
- Write its blocked production step.
- Assign or capture a Pal that covers that step.
- Observe a full cycle with storage and food accessible.
- Keep the change only if the bottleneck improves.
Before you play
- Base workers and the travelling party checked separately.
- Planting, Watering, Gathering and Transporting covered for food.
- Storage close to production; lanes left open.
- One production cycle observed before expansion.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a rare Pal to make the first base efficient?
No. Start by completing missing work roles. A rare fighter does not fix a plantation waiting for Watering.
Where is the best first-base coordinate?
This guide deliberately does not claim a universal coordinate. World settings, unlocks and build restrictions matter; a small flat site with working paths is the first test.

Added a v1.0.4 documented-fix case with the original Pocketpair announcement, symptom-specific checks, observable pass conditions and a blank observation sheet. Officially reported fixes are separated from our proposed procedure; no hands-on result is claimed. Existing starter roles and food-chain guidance remain below the case.
