Read the machine before adding another
The cited Oxygen Diffuser page lists 120 W power draw, 550 g/s Algae input and 500 g/s Oxygen output while operating. It also describes a local overpressure stop near 1.8 kg gas per tile. A diffuser labelled overpressured may be waiting because its tile is already full; building more beside it is not a solution to distant low oxygen.
Start with the building status panel and the gas overlay. The first question is whether the machine lacks an input, has intentionally stopped at pressure, or is producing gas that cannot travel where a Duplicant works.
- Select the diffuser and read its current status. Record the exact message before changing the layout.
- If it lacks power, trace the connected circuit back to generation and wiring. If it lacks Algae, verify stored supply and a reachable delivery errand.
- If overpressured, inspect gas at the diffuser and the neighboring routes. Open a gas-permeable path before placing another unit.
- If running, inspect oxygen where the Duplicants actually work and sleep; compare production, travel path and demand separately.
- After one change, let the system run and recheck machine status plus the destination gas overlay.

Separate production from distribution
The Wiki's baseline Duplicant entry lists about 100 g/s oxygen consumption. One nominal 500-g/s diffuser therefore exceeds the arithmetic demand of three ordinary Duplicants while active. This is not a guarantee that every corner is breathable: oxygen can move slowly through constricted corridors, and the diffuser can stop when its own tile reaches overpressure.
Do not infer that a low-oxygen alert in a distant room proves insufficient nominal output. Check an obstructed route, narrow passage or a sink of heavier gas before investing more Algae and power. Conversely, if the machine is continuously active and demand or losses exceed its real delivered output, another production source may eventually be justified.
| Observed status | Likely bottleneck | First corrective check |
|---|---|---|
| No Power | Supply or circuit | Trace generator, battery and wire connection |
| Awaiting Algae | Input stock or delivery | Check mined Algae, access and supply errand |
| Overpressure | Local gas mass | Inspect local gas and its route out, not only total colony demand |
| Running, but far room has low oxygen | Distribution or local demand | Inspect route and gas overlay at the far room |
| Running, Algae stock falling rapidly | Fuel burn is real | Measure stock trend and plan a later replacement source |

Worked example: an idle machine beside a breathless room
Illustrative diagnosis, not a played colony: a diffuser at the main base reports overpressure, while a remote sleeping area has low oxygen. Placing a second diffuser next to the first doubles potential input draw but may leave both locally blocked. The first useful action is to inspect the gas path between rooms and enable circulation; then observe whether the original diffuser restarts and the distant gas improves.
For a three-Duplicant baseline, the 500-versus-300 g/s comparison suggests nominal production is enough when the machine runs. It does not prove sufficient delivery, and traits such as Mouthbreather change demand. If the machine status says a different fault, resolve that actual fault first.

Leave evidence for the next repair
Record the game build, diffuser status, Algae stock, power circuit, and gas overlay at both source and destination before and after one change. This tells you whether the repair addressed production, distribution or neither.

Frequently asked questions
Does one diffuser always support five Duplicants?
No. The 500-g/s output divided by 100-g/s baseline demand is only ideal arithmetic. It ignores downtime, traits, distribution and other oxygen consumers.
Why is the diffuser idle when another room is low on oxygen?
One possible cause is local overpressure. Check the actual building status and gas route; the remote room's alert alone does not identify the cause.
Is Algae an unlimited long-term source?
The cited Wiki calls the diffuser Algae-hungry. Measure your stock trend and plan a replacement rather than assuming a full starting deposit is renewable.
