Separate the terminal's different return paths
The Omega announcement describes expedition started from an existing save, a terminal used to load provisions and copy a ship or Multi-Tool, and an end-of-expedition option to return technology and items. It separately says earned units, nanites, Quicksilver, discoveries and bases are handled automatically on completion. Those categories should not be collapsed into a promise that every object transfers the same way.
| Category in the official Omega description | Documented handling | What to verify in your game |
|---|---|---|
| Selected items and technology | Can be returned through the expedition terminal at expedition end | Which items are selectable and what the current terminal shows |
| Units, nanites and Quicksilver | Described as automatically returned on completion | The current completion summary and destination save |
| Discoveries and bases | Described as automatically shared with the primary save on completion | Whether you are completing the expedition from a primary-save workflow |
| Starship or Multi-Tool copy | A separate copy action through the same terminal | Whether the confirmation says it exchanges/replaces an existing primary ship |

Read the ship-copy confirmation as a decision point
Worlds Part II Update 5.5 says Hello Games improved the message shown when a ship copied between an expedition and a main save is an exchange that replaces the current primary ship. The notes do not promise that copying always adds a ship to a free slot. The safest practical rule is to treat the confirmation dialog as authoritative for the action currently offered.
- At the expedition terminal, identify the expedition ship and the primary-save ship before starting the copy flow.
- Advance only far enough to read the complete confirmation. Look for explicit wording that the action is an exchange and names or depicts the ship that will be replaced.
- If the primary ship you want to keep is the exchange target, cancel and do not accept. The guide does not assume a hidden extra slot or automatic undo.
- If the displayed exchange is exactly what you intend, accept only after checking the item/technology state and any separate terminal options.
- Return to the primary save and verify the active ship and copied ship in-game before discarding a backup or changing another ship.

A safer completion sequence
This sequence keeps separate decisions separate. It is useful when an expedition has ended and you want selected cargo, technology or a ship without confusing one confirmation with another.
- Check that you are in the intended expedition and primary-save slot; do not assume another save slot is the destination.
- Review the terminal's selectable item/technology return separately from the ship-copy action.
- If copying a ship, read the exchange/replace prompt and cancel if it targets a ship you want to retain.
- Complete the return/finalisation step only when you are ready; 7.13 adds a specific expired-season finalisation behavior for community expeditions started from a primary save.
- Confirm the primary save's inventory and ship roster after the transition. If the result differs from the prompt, stop making further changes and preserve the current state before seeking support.

When to ask players or the publisher
If your screen does not match the published notes, include the platform, exact build, whether the expedition began from a primary save, the terminal action selected and the confirmation text. Use player discussions for comparison, but label anecdotes as player reports—not a universal rule. For a bug, Hello Games links its support/bug-report route from current patch notes.

Before you play
- I separated item/technology return from the starship-copy choice.
- I read the full exchange prompt and identified which primary ship is affected.
- I cancelled if the proposed replacement was not intended.
- I verified the destination save in-game before discarding any backup.
Frequently asked questions
Does copying an expedition ship always add a ship without replacing one?
No such guarantee appears in the cited notes. Update 5.5 explicitly clarifies the message when the copy is an exchange replacing the current primary ship.
Are expedition rewards and ship copies one transfer?
No. Omega describes selected item/technology return, automatically returned currencies/discoveries/bases, and ship/Multi-Tool copy as distinct operations.
Is this an in-game tested recipe?
No. It is based on official published update notes; the UI, save and ship copy were not tested here.
