Make a controlled baseline
The support procedure separates streamed Marketplace content from PC Community-folder content. Keep the symptom, flight/aircraft and settings as consistent as possible between runs; changing several categories at once makes the result hard to interpret.
- Record MSFS 2024 build, Steam/MS Store, aircraft, activity/flight, peripherals and the exact crash or loading symptom.
- Open Marketplace > My Library and disable packages from non-Microsoft creators as Microsoft's current article describes.
- Close the simulator before changing the Community folder.
- On PC, rename rather than delete the MSFS 2024 Community folder using the correct default path for Steam or MS Store.
- Restart and attempt the same flight or menu path once; write down whether the symptom changed.

Restore content in a way that identifies a suspect
A stable vanilla session narrows the investigation; it does not prove every disabled package is defective. Microsoft instructs users to enable content one by one until the problematic package is found. The same principle applies to Community-folder items: reintroduce one item or a small tracked batch and retest.
- If vanilla mode still fails, stop changing add-ons and send the build, store, exact steps and result to support.
- If vanilla mode works, restore the Community folder in small, named groups while keeping a list of each test.
- Re-enable My Library packages one at a time and restart where required.
- After each change, reproduce the same symptom rather than switching aircraft, route and graphics settings simultaneously.
- When a specific third-party package is implicated, contact its creator; do not label it broken based on one unrelated crash.

Use the correct version and route
| Case | Use this procedure? | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| MSFS 2024 PC / Steam | Yes, use 2024 Steam path in current support article | Do not copy the MS Store path |
| MSFS 2024 PC / Microsoft Store or Xbox app | Yes, use 2024 Store path | Do not use 2020 folder names |
| MSFS 2024 Xbox console | Library toggles may apply; filesystem steps do not | Do not attempt PC folder operations |
| MSFS 2020 | No, this guide targets 2024 | Open the 2020 support procedure instead |

Before you play
- I recorded a reproducible baseline and build.
- I disabled streamed content before moving the Community folder.
- I renamed/preserved the folder instead of deleting it.
- I restored packages individually after a successful vanilla test.
- I used the correct MSFS 2024 store-specific path.
Frequently asked questions
Should I delete the Community folder?
Microsoft's 2024 support instructions say to rename it for a test on PC. Preserve it so you can restore content and isolate items.
If vanilla mode works, is the first add-on I restore definitely the culprit?
Not necessarily. Reproduce the same symptom after each change and narrow the group before attributing cause.
Does this validate a Marketplace purchase?
No. Use the separate My Library and account-entitlement checks; this article isolates technical add-on behavior.

- Microsoft Flight Simulator Support: Restore MSFS 2024 to vanilla state (Official)
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 support article updated November 5, 2026. It isolates non-Microsoft streamed packages and the PC Community folder, then re-enables items one by one. Folder locations differ by Steam/MS Store; do not apply MSFS 2020 paths.
- Microsoft Flight Simulator Support: Enable, disable and download content (Official)
MSFS 2024 support page updated October 18, 2026: after update 1.2.7.0 some ported Marketplace content is disabled by default; manage it through Marketplace > My Library. 'Not available' means not yet verified for MSFS 2024, not necessarily missing ownership.
