Read the timeline before changing labor
The 0.8.117 announcement promotes the update to Manor Lords' default branch and describes a redesigned field panel with the next 12 months of field tasks. Use that panel to see what the game expects next; do not infer a task from the season name alone or from a schedule copied from an older guide.
Crop classes matter. Wheat and Rye are winter crops; the announcement allows spring sowing for a quicker return but at lower yield. Flax, Barley and Oats are spring crops and can only be sown in spring. Crop Rotation is always on in this version. If a field has a crop selected but nothing planted, it regenerates fertility like fallow.
| What the field shows | Version 0.8.117 rule to apply | Check next |
|---|---|---|
| Selected Flax, Barley or Oats but no spring sowing | These are spring crops; they cannot be sown in winter | Read the 12-month timeline and check that farmhouse workers and oxen can reach the field |
| Wheat or Rye sown in spring | Allowed, but the patch notes say the return is quicker with lower yield | Treat it as a tradeoff, not a guaranteed full-yield harvest; compare the field's own timeline |
| Crop selected, not planted | Fertility regenerates as if the field were fallow | Confirm it is still unplanted and inspect the timeline before changing crop selection |
| Field is fallow or has nothing ready on September 1 | Rotation can trigger on September 1, including fallow fields | Check the scheduled next crop and whether the autumn task sequence started |
| Harvest just completed | Rotation may trigger immediately after harvest | Check the next crop and field task; don't wait for a fixed date |
| Crop died without harvest | Rotation can trigger on November 1 | Check whether the crop died and whether the next cycle has begun |

Use a field-by-field fault isolation order
A large farm can hide the one field that is waiting for a legal season, rotation event or worker task. Diagnose one affected field first so you do not change several rotations while trying to explain one symptom.
- Confirm the installed branch/build. The guide describes 0.8.117 default-branch behavior, not an older save or a future patch.
- Select the problem field and read the new 12-month field timeline. Record its next planned activity and crop before changing either.
- Check the crop class: Wheat/Rye are winter; Flax/Barley/Oats are spring. A spring sowing of Wheat/Rye is a lower-yield fallback, not the normal full-yield plan.
- Check field state: unplanted, growing, harvestable, recently harvested, fallow, or crop died unharvested. Match it to the autumn rotation trigger table above.
- Check farm access and task capacity only after the timeline says work should be possible: farmhouse staffing, ox availability, field access and competing harvest/plow tasks.
- Change one field setting, then advance time only as far as needed to observe whether the expected task begins. Record the build, month, crop, field state and timeline if it still fails.

Fertilizer is a separate fallow-field workflow
Version 0.8.117 adds the Dunghill and Dung Collector: pasture animals produce dung, families collect it, and the Dunghill stores dung/fertilizer. Farmhouse workers can apply fertilizer to a fallow field during summer to raise maximum fertility; the notes say the boost lasts just over two years. Check that production, storage, a fallow target and the field's fertilizer control are all present. The patch notes do not give a universal animal-to-field ratio, so this guide does not invent one.

Use the local field checker
Choose the crop and state visible in your field panel. The checker gives you the next question to inspect; it cannot see your game, determine your exact yield, or tell whether a field is bugged.

Community reports are clues, not a patch note
If the visible timeline contradicts your expectation, compare reports on the Steam forum only after matching the branch and version. In particular, older crop calendars and marketplace/farming advice may describe a previous rotation system. Provide the build, crop, month and a cropped screenshot of the field timeline when asking for help; hide account names and unrelated save details.

Before you play
- I confirmed the installed branch and build before applying version-specific advice.
- I read this field's 12-month timeline before changing rotation or staffing.
- I matched the crop to its allowed sowing season.
- I checked the correct autumn rotation trigger for the field's actual state.
- I treated fertilizer as a fallow-field process and did not assume a universal production ratio.
Frequently asked questions
Can Crop Rotation be turned off in 0.8.117?
No. Slavic Magic says Crop Rotation is always on in 0.8.117.
Can Wheat or Rye be planted in spring?
The patch notes say it is allowed for a quicker return but with lower yield. Flax, Barley and Oats are spring crops and can only be sown in spring.
Why did my unplanted field gain fertility?
In 0.8.117, a field with a selected crop but nothing planted regenerates fertility as if fallow.
When can the field rotate?
The 0.8.117 notes list autumn triggers: September 1 if nothing is ready to harvest, after a harvest completes, and November 1 for crops that died unharvested.
