First diagnose the problem: wrong account, wrong server, or moving?
Riot explains that accounts are linked to a League region. The region selector was removed from login for most accounts; the client settings/cog shows the region. Playing on a different region may require another region-associated account or a transfer of the existing account—these are not the same action.
| Symptom | Check first | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Login lands in an empty account | Confirm Riot ID/account and linked League region | Purchasing a transfer to recover an unknown account. |
| Want to queue with a friend elsewhere | Confirm both game server regions; Riot says queues are region-limited | Assuming cross-region chat means cross-region matchmaking. |
| Moved to another country | Check Region of Residence and game server separately | Changing a payment residence as a substitute for a server transfer. |
| Want same account and progress on another server | Read current destination/cooldown and non-transfer list | Confirming before checking what ranked data stays behind. |

Check destination and irreversible consequences
Riot's current transfer guide lists server-specific restrictions and says an accidental transfer cannot be reversed. It also describes a 90-day cooldown. Do not rely on an older screenshot or a quoted price: use the live store and current support article.
- Check the current region in the League client and name the exact destination shard.
- Read the current transfer eligibility table for both origin and destination; some routes are blocked.
- Review the transfer confirmation, price and any promotion in the client immediately before purchase.
- Check Riot's transfer table for excluded data; current ranked placement, Your Shop offers, Clash affiliations and Clash match history are among items listed as not transferring.
- Proceed only if the destination and loss of non-transferred data are acceptable; otherwise stop and contact Riot Support.
Know what can follow—and what does not
The transfer article says many account elements move, but not all. It lists current Ranked League placement as not transferring and says new placement games are required on the new server. Exact lists can change, so open the source before a real transfer.
| Riot's article says transfers include | Riot's article says does not transfer | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Account level, champions/skins, friends, crafting inventory and many records | Current ranked placement, Your Shop offers, Clash club affiliations/history | Save any information you need and expect new placements. |
| Hidden MMR adapted to new region | Current placement itself | Do not expect the same displayed tier immediately. |
| Some TFT content also transfers | Some mission/battle-pass progress may not | Read the combined League/TFT list if you play both. |

Ask Riot/community with safe details
Account transfers are irreversible under Riot's published guidance; account-specific eligibility belongs with Riot Support, not community speculation.
- For a failed transfer, use Riot's ticket flow and provide the requested origin/destination and error only through the secure support form.
- For public community help, share region pair and non-sensitive message; never post email, password, transaction IDs or full Riot ID.
- Treat community answers as unverified and compare transfer restrictions against Riot's live page.
Before you play
- I confirmed whether I need a new region account or a same-account transfer.
- I checked the live destination restriction and the current confirmation screen.
- I understand the 90-day cooldown and non-transferring ranked/Clash data before proceeding.
