Classify the failure before changing anything
A game closing to the dashboard, a system error, and the PS5 powering down are different reports. PLAION specifically asks PS5 players with a shutdown symptom to distinguish the disc/console and consult Sony's steps; the route should not be copied to PC or Xbox.
- Record the local date/time, whether KCD II closed, the PS5 displayed an error, or the console powered off completely.
- If you use the disc edition, note whether another disc game shows the same console behavior; this helps separate one title from wider disc/console issues.
- Record game build, console system software and whether the issue repeats at the same point.
- Do not repeatedly force shutdown while a save indicator is active; preserve the current save state first.

Use a data-first escalation ladder
PLAION warns that some Safe Mode options cause data loss and says to back up before proceeding. Its article lists cache/database and system checks, but this guide intentionally does not treat every listed operation as equally low-risk or a guaranteed fix.
| Stage | Reasonable next check | Safety boundary |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Preserve evidence | Back up console data using Sony's current backup guidance; record the exact error and time | Do not begin with reset/restore options |
| 2. Check environment | Confirm current system/game updates, unobstructed airflow and vents; compare behavior after normal restart | Do not open the console or modify hardware if unsure |
| 3. Read current official guidance | Follow the current PLAION PS5 article and linked Sony steps for the exact symptom | Safe Mode labels and consequences must be checked on Sony's page |
| 4. Escalate | If the whole console still shuts down, contact Sony/PLAION with the reproducible pattern | Reinstall only after backup and after understanding local/cloud save status |
Make a support report another person can act on
A short repeatable report is more useful than a long list of unrelated settings. Don't post your account email, serial number, receipt, cloud identifiers or a full save on public forums.
- Write the game and PS5 build, disc/digital edition and exact error text.
- Describe one repeatable sequence: location or action, elapsed play time, whether save activity was visible, and whether the console shut down.
- List only steps already tried and their observed result; do not call a step successful unless you observed it.
- Use PLAION's support center for game-specific reporting and Sony for a console-wide shutdown; treat Steam discussions as irrelevant to this PS5 symptom unless the post clearly concerns the same platform/build.
