Confirm which path contains the newest profile
Frozen District's current support page names the former Documents location and the newer LocalLow/AppData location, plus a separate Steam Deck path. The two folders can contain different timestamps; compare before copying.
| Environment | Publisher-listed location | Safe first action |
|---|---|---|
| Windows PC | %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Frozen District\House Flipper 2 | Copy both old Documents and new AppData folders elsewhere |
| Legacy Windows save | %USERPROFILE%\Documents\House Flipper 2 | Do not remove until the destination opens with expected progress |
| Steam Deck | Steam compatdata 1190970 path in the support article | Use Deck-specific instructions; do not paste Windows path literally |
| Unclear or redirected Documents | Check OneDrive/security redirection and actual folder contents | Stop and ask support before merging competing profiles |

Migrate without sacrificing the only copy
The support article advises starting the game to create the new destination, quitting, then copying old folder content into the new location. Treat its folder deletion step as optional until you have confirmed the migrated profile loads and remains saved.
- Close the game and cloud-sync client; copy the old Documents folder and new AppData folder to separate dated backups.
- Start and quit the game once if the destination folder does not exist, as Frozen District directs.
- Compare profile names, file dates and sizes; do not merge folders blindly if both have recent saves.
- Copy the selected files into the new location, keeping the original backup intact.
- Launch the game and verify the expected profile and a known house appear; then make a new in-game save.
- Only after a later relaunch confirms the new save, consider archiving—not immediately deleting—the old folder.
- If the game keeps writing to the former path or still crashes, follow the publisher's current migration article or support ticket.

Frequently asked questions
Should I delete the Documents save after copying?
Not until a verified backup exists and the new profile has survived a later launch. Keeping it temporarily is safer.
Does this cover PlayStation or Xbox?
No. These file paths apply to Windows PC and a separate Steam Deck location.
Does this tool migrate files?
No. It records which checks you completed; it never reads or writes files.

- Frozen District Support: Saved-state migration error (Official)
Publisher support documents the Windows move from Documents to AppData, a Steam Deck location and manual migration steps. Back up both folders first; follow the article if the game still writes to the old location.
- Frozen District Support: Restore lost progress on PC (Official)
Support says the PC game creates a backup after a play session longer than 60 minutes. Recovery is PC-only and changing profiles/files can overwrite newer work; preserve a copy first.
