Choose the outcome before comparing storefronts
The same console/PC pair can be supported for playing together but still cannot share a character or purchase. Arrowhead's FAQ explicitly separates cross-play from cross-save and cross-buy; do not treat account linking as a transfer tool.

A practical pre-purchase and invite sequence
A successful cross-play feature statement is not a live-session diagnostic. If you intend to play together, verify the actual player invite path and installed versions after checking the platform support statement.
- Write each player's platform: PC, PlayStation or Xbox; do not infer which PC storefronts have the same progression.
- Select the real goal: join friends, continue the same progress elsewhere, or buy one copy for multiple platforms.
- For a squad, use the cross-play feature and then compare both players' current game builds and in-game invite settings.
- For saves or purchases, assume no transfer/shared entitlement under the cited FAQ; linking Steam and PSN is not a migration step.
- Before buying another copy, check the exact platform store listing and account you will use. This guide cannot see regional storefront or purchase terms.
- If a cross-play invite fails despite supported platforms, capture the platform pair, build shown, host/client direction and exact error for support; do not label every join failure a cross-play policy limitation.
