First identify the kind of missing progress
A vanished slot after a crash, a lower escape count on a second device, and an empty profile after reinstall are not necessarily the same fault. First note the Hades edition, platform/store, account, save slot, last known time, and whether another device still shows the expected progress. Keep the device with the best-known save closed while you preserve a backup.
| Where the save is missing | Official first route | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Windows/Mac Steam or Epic; Slot 1 file present | Back up the save folder, then follow Supergiant's .sav/.bak recovery instructions one candidate at a time | Overwriting every file or applying the Slot 1 filename to another slot |
| Microsoft Store PC/Xbox App profile vanished | Refresh the Microsoft account session, restart the PC, then follow the Store-specific support branch | Copying Steam/Epic save files into the Store profile |
| Nintendo Switch cross-save not syncing | Check Switch date/time, internet, PC cloud settings and Epic Services where relevant; restart Switch | Repeatedly selecting a cloud conflict without comparing progress/time |
| PS4/PS5, Xbox-only, or non-cross-save platform | Use platform support and Supergiant's contact route for that edition | Assuming a PC/Switch backup filename or cross-save path applies |

Windows/Mac: preserve before attempting Slot 1 recovery
Supergiant gives separate default save folders: Windows uses Documents\Saved Games\Hades and macOS uses ~/Library/Application Support/Supergiant Games/Hades. Its restore sequence assumes Slot 1. Before following it, copy the entire Hades folder to a separate location you will not overwrite. If cloud sync is active, pause new launches until you understand which copy is newest.
- Close Hades and locate the platform-specific save folder from Supergiant's technical support page.
- Copy the whole folder to another location as a safety copy. Do not edit the only original.
- For Slot 1 only, identify the active Profile1.sav and sort candidate .sav/.bak files by modified time. Preserve each candidate before renaming anything.
- Follow Supergiant's sequence: rename Profile1.sav to Profile1_old.sav, rename the newest candidate to Profile1.sav, then open the in-game Play menu and check the slot.
- If the expected progress is not present, close the game, restore your safety copy if needed, and try the next-most-recent candidate only after preserving the prior state.
- If no candidate works, stop experimenting and contact Supergiant with platform, storefront, slot, and what you already tried. Do not send a save publicly.

Use the matching branch for other platforms
Supergiant's Microsoft Store branch says a missing profile may be tied to Microsoft-session recognition and recommends signing out/in, restarting, and (if necessary) reinstalling the Xbox app. Its Switch cross-save branch instead checks system date/time, internet, the PC storefront's cloud setting, and Epic Services. PlayStation/Xbox system errors should go through the respective platform support; the guide does not provide a universal console save-file restore method.
| Edition | Next documented checks | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Store on PC / Xbox App | Refresh the Microsoft account session; restart PC; consult Store/Xbox app support if needed | This is account/session troubleshooting, not a file restore guarantee |
| Nintendo Switch ↔ PC/Mac cross-save | Check date/time, network, PC/Mac cloud setting, Epic Services if used; restart Switch | Only use on a supported PC/Switch pair |
| PlayStation / Xbox console | Use the linked platform's support for system errors; contact Supergiant if the Hades guide does not resolve it | No manual console save-file instructions are claimed here |
| Steam Deck | Check same Steam account and Steam Cloud; then use the Switch troubleshooting branch only for a Switch cross-save | Cloud sync cannot confirm which profile is correct |

Prepare a useful private support note
If the documented path does not work, record the platform/store, OS, Hades version shown by that platform, save slot, last-known progress, and the exact recovery steps attempted. Do not attach account passwords or post private save files in player discussions. The runbook builder produces text locally; you decide whether and where to send it.

Scope and safety
The `.sav`/`.bak` sequence is not a guarantee and is expressly scoped here to Windows/Mac Slot 1. Supergiant's guide may change. No file is read, copied, renamed, uploaded, or restored by GamerWin, and no support request is submitted. If you are uncertain which save is newest, preserve all copies and stop before an overwrite.

Before you play
- Keep the device with the best-known progress closed while you preserve a backup.
- Use the Windows/Mac .sav/.bak restore path only for the platform and Slot 1 it documents.
- The Microsoft Store and Switch sync problems use different account/cloud checks.
- Copy the entire folder somewhere safe before renaming; never overwrite the only copy.
- The runbook does not inspect files or send a support request.
Frequently asked questions
Where are Hades saves on Windows and Mac?
Supergiant lists Windows at Documents\Saved Games\Hades and Mac at ~/Library/Application Support/Supergiant Games/Hades. Confirm the platform's current folder and preserve a copy before editing files.
Can I use the Slot 1 backup restore steps on any console?
No. Supergiant's named .sav/.bak sequence is for Windows/Mac and assumes Slot 1. This guide does not claim equivalent manual file access on consoles.
Will reinstalling Hades restore my missing progress?
Not necessarily. First determine whether the problem is a local file, account, or cross-save sync issue and preserve existing copies. Reinstallation alone is not described as a universal restore.
Does GamerWin receive my file or report?
No. The runbook formats only text you enter in your browser; it does not read or transmit saves, and it does not contact Supergiant.
