Identify the pet state before clicking repair
A missing on-screen pet is not the same as a dead pet. Obsidian describes Game Repair recovery for pets that are not currently following the player. It separately says a pet assigned to a Pet House can teleport to its house if outside terrain. Those are two different destinations to check after recovery.
The 1.4.7 notes later added fixes to reduce pets falling through the world and becoming permanently lost. That is evidence the issue existed, not proof that every lost-pet scenario is solved. Keep the build, save and assignment state visible before applying a recovery action.
- Pause and confirm you are on original Grounded 1.4 or later; note your platform and active save, especially in a shared world.
- Check whether the pet is assigned to a Pet House. Inspect the house and follower status before concluding it vanished.
- Create a recoverable save or backup using your platform's available method before changing the state.
- Open Game Repair and use the pet recovery action once for a pet that is not currently following, as described by the 1.4 notes.
- Check the Pet House again if assigned, and check whether the pet now follows or appears nearby. Record what changed; do not repeat the action blindly.

Avoid mixing up repair, recall and resurrection
The official wording is about recovering pets not following and teleporting housed pets from problematic positions. It does not say the button resurrects a pet that has died. If your pet was confirmed dead, do not present a missing-pet recall as a guaranteed solution; inspect your save or game's available options instead.
A shared-world player should also check who owns the save and whether the current world is the expected one before performing repeated repair attempts. The 1.4 notes added multiplayer load-save improvements, but they do not establish that every client sees an identical recovery state at once.
| Observed state | First place to check | Appropriate next step |
|---|---|---|
| Pet not beside player, house assigned | Assigned Pet House | Inspect house; use Game Repair if still missing and not following |
| Pet not following, no house assignment | Follower state and nearby area | Back up, then try Game Repair once |
| Pet confirmed dead | Save and current game options | Do not claim recall is resurrection |
| Pet still absent after repair | Build, save type and assignment record | Keep evidence and report the issue; avoid repeated blind repairs |

Worked example: housed pet versus follower
Illustrative diagnosis, not a tested Grounded save: a player's baby ant no longer follows after a long expedition. They remember assigning it to a Pet House. Rather than searching the entire map, they check that house, make a backup and then try the single Game Repair pet recovery action. The official 1.4 behavior gives a reason to inspect the house again because housed pets outside terrain can teleport there.
If the house remains empty and the pet is not following, that observation narrows the problem but does not prove a fix exists. Preserve the pre-repair save and note whether this was solo or shared-world play before seeking support.

Make the result reproducible
A useful correction report includes the pet type, assignment, world/save type, build number, whether the pet was alive, where you last saw it, and what Game Repair changed. A screenshot of the Pet House and follower state can be stronger evidence than a generic 'pet gone' report.
For a REMIX.R door that does not open, use the separate four-gate guide. Pet recovery and New Game+ progression are different systems despite sharing the same 1.4 release notes.
Build / platform / solo or shared world:
Pet type / alive? / following? / assigned house?:
Last known location and house before repair:
Backup made / Game Repair used once?:
House and follower state after repair:Before you play
- Correct game/build and active save checked.
- House assignment and follower state recorded.
- Backup created before Game Repair.
- House and follower state checked after one action; no resurrection claim.
Frequently asked questions
Where should I look after Game Repair?
If the pet was assigned to a Pet House, inspect that house; the 1.4 notes describe teleporting housed pets there in some situations. Also check follower state.
Can Game Repair bring back a dead pet?
The cited notes do not claim resurrection. They describe recovery for pets not following and housed pets outside terrain.
