Distinguish migration from recovery
A developer saying that Early Access saves carry over describes the planned update path. It does not establish where a particular platform stores saves, whether Steam Cloud selected the correct copy, or whether an individual file is healthy. Treat the FAQ as the expected transition, then verify your own menu.
- Record platform, storefront and displayed game version before launching an older backup or another device.
- If the save appears in the load menu, open it normally and verify the character/world name and last known in-game state before overwriting anything.
- If the save is absent or looks wrong, quit without creating a replacement save or repeatedly syncing between devices. Preserve any local/cloud copies using the platform's supported backup controls.
- After a successful load, check achievements separately. The FAQ says completed achievements should be awarded retroactively; allow the game/platform achievement service to update before concluding they are missing.
- Do not infer cross-save between PC and console from an Early Access-to-1.0 PC migration FAQ.
- If escalating, provide the storefront, OS, build, save-menu observation and last known good session; do not post the save file publicly.
| Situation | Interpretation | Safe next step |
|---|---|---|
| Existing save appears and loads | Matches the stated carry-over path | Verify identity/state before saving again |
| Save missing or wrong | Not covered by the migration promise | Stop sync/overwrite attempts; preserve copies |
| Achievement not visible yet | FAQ says retroactive award expected | Check platform connection and wait/reopen once |
| Move between PC and console | FAQ does not establish cross-platform transfer | Check platform-specific support separately |

Record what you observed
This local checklist helps separate a normal version transition from a save-recovery case. It does not scan files or contact Steam/NPC Studio.
- Enter the platform/storefront and game build.
- Record whether the save is visible, loads, and matches the expected character/world.
- Note achievement status separately and whether the platform service is online.

Before you play
- I distinguished version carry-over from restoring a missing save.
- I preserved available copies before another cloud sync or overwrite.
- I checked achievements separately from save loading.
Frequently asked questions
Did the 1.0 update require a new save?
NPC Studio's 1.0 FAQ said existing saves would carry over. This is not a promise that every damaged or cloud-conflicted file can be recovered.
Should I start a new save if mine is missing?
First preserve the available files and check the platform's support steps; starting/saving a new file can complicate recovery.
Does the FAQ guarantee console cross-save?
No. It concerns the game's Early Access-to-1.0 transition and does not establish cross-platform save transfer.
