Fallout 4 Creations & save-safety preflight

Choose the symptom and platform for a source-based next-check list. This tool does not connect to Bethesda, Steam, Xbox or PlayStation and cannot inspect your account, files, DLC, load order or save.

Selected context: Steam on PC

The old Mods and Creation Club entries were combined into Creations with Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition (November 10, 2025). Look for that menu label first.

  1. Confirm the Bethesda.net account used for Creations is signed in and linked.
  2. If the menu still will not load, try Bethesda's reversible offline → launch → select Creations → reconnect sequence.
  3. If this followed an update, verify the installed game version and creator update status before changing files.

Safety: No actual save files need to be deleted for these checks. Do not clear saved data, remove mods, reinstall or overwrite a save as a first diagnostic; those actions can be destructive. Bethesda's patch history checked November 6, 2026 has an August 18, 2026 entry, not a live build detector.

Selections are kept only in this page's React state; nothing is sent or stored by this tool.

Identify the current menu name and your update context

Bethesda says the November 10, 2025 Anniversary Edition launch combined the old Mods and Creation Club menus into one Creations menu. A screenshot or guide showing the old two menu entries may be describing an earlier build. Bethesda's patch-history page checked November 6, 2026 has an August 18, 2026 entry; this date is the latest entry found, not proof that a particular platform has no later hotfix.

  1. On the main menu, look for Creations rather than expecting separate Mods and Creation Club buttons.
  2. Record the platform/storefront and the displayed Fallout 4 version from its platform library or update screen.
  3. If this began immediately after an update, note which Creations were installed; Bethesda warns existing Creations may need their creator's update after a game patch.
  4. Do not start by deleting the save, clearing reserved space, or removing all content.

Check account and platform access before touching files

Bethesda's missing-menu instructions first ask players to sign in to and link the Bethesda.net account used for Creations. Its Xbox-specific branch also asks that 'You can see and upload community creations' be allowed. These are account/platform checks; they cannot be verified from a screenshot of the title menu alone.

  1. Confirm you are signed into the Bethesda.net account that owns or uses the Creations library, and check its Linked Accounts page.
  2. On Xbox, review Privacy & online safety and set 'You can see and upload community creations' to Everyone if that setting blocks community content.
  3. On PC and PlayStation, do not apply Xbox-specific account-privacy steps; verify the correct Bethesda account and network sign-in instead.
  4. If you cannot establish which account is linked, stop before unlinking or relinking and use Bethesda Support.

Try Bethesda's reversible menu retry

Bethesda documents an offline-to-online sequence for a Creations menu that does not load. This is a connectivity retry, not a promise that a server outage, account mismatch or outdated mod will be fixed.

  1. Close Fallout 4 and disconnect the console or PC from the internet.
  2. Launch the game offline and select Creations from the main menu.
  3. While the Creations menu is loading, reconnect to the internet; on PC, Bethesda says Alt+Tab can be used to reconnect outside the game window.
  4. If it remains unavailable, record the exact error and platform/version, check Bethesda's latest patch notes and support status, and avoid repeating file cleanup steps from old forum posts.

Use a risk ladder for persistent failures

Bethesda's support page eventually discusses removing Creations and reinstalling, with different PC folders for Steam, Microsoft Xbox App and Epic. Those instructions can remove user-installed content and should not be treated as an early test. The page's console wording distinguishes 'save data' from actual saves; because destructive terminology is easy to confuse, do not delete any actual save file or profile as a menu diagnostic.

Before you play

  • I looked for the unified Creations menu rather than old separate Mods/Creation Club labels.
  • I recorded platform and installed game version before comparing advice.
  • I checked the correct Bethesda.net link; on Xbox, I also checked the documented community-creation permission.
  • I tried the documented offline-to-online retry before any cleanup.
  • I did not delete a save, profile or mod folder as a menu test.

Frequently asked questions

Did Anniversary Edition remove Fallout 4 mods?

Bethesda says the old Mods and Creation Club menus were combined into the Creations menu; previously released Mods and Creation Club content are browsed there.

Why did Creations disappear after an update?

Bethesda warns previously installed Creations may not work properly until updated by their creators; also confirm the account link and, on Xbox, the community-creation privacy setting.

Should I delete my save or all mod files to restore the menu?

No. Start with the account, platform-permission and offline-to-online checks. Bethesda's deeper cleanup steps are last-resort and platform-specific; never delete actual save files to test a menu problem.

Sources & revision notes

Editorial revision: November 6, 2026; not a gameplay test date. The reference notes identify source limits and version differences.

  1. Bethesda Support: Fallout 4 patches and Creation storage updates (Official)

Bethesda patch-history page checked November 6, 2026; the latest entry located is August 18, 2026, with earlier May 27, 2026 storage changes. Patch notes are dated records, not a live version detector; check the installed platform's displayed version for any later hotfix.

  2. Bethesda Support: Fallout 4 Creations menu missing (Official)

Bethesda says Anniversary Edition combined Mods and Creation Club into the Creations menu on November 10, 2025; also documents Bethesda.net linking, Xbox community-creation privacy, an offline-to-online menu retry and cleanup steps. Reinstall/file-removal instructions are last-resort and risky; this guide does not recommend deleting actual save files.

  3. Bethesda Support: Where did saves go after I installed Fallout 4 mods? (Official)

Bethesda states that modded saves use a separate profile and instructs players to switch profiles in the Load menu or view all saves on the machine. Short official troubleshooting text; it does not identify a particular local failure.

  4. Bethesda Support: Fallout 4 save relies on content that is no longer present (Official)

Bethesda says the warning means a mod or DLC enabled when the save was made is no longer enabled; its PlayStation note requires the correct PS4 versus PS5 DLC build. The article also identifies Microsoft Xbox App PC reports, so do not assume that every warning has the same cause.

  5. Fallout 4 Steam Community Discussions (Community)

External, user-generated player posts. They may refer to different stores, Anniversary patches, script extenders or mod configurations; use for symptom comparison only, not as Bethesda-confirmed instructions. Never post account details or private save files.
