Change one compatibility variable at a time
The official announcement archive includes community patch/beta context. Branches can carry different fixes and mechanics; mod authors may target a specific version. A stable test isolates the build change from the mod change.
- Before launching, note Steam's current beta participation selection and the displayed game version.
- Record active mods and their stated supported version/branch, including required dependencies.
- Make a separate backup of a valued campaign before changing branch or mod set; do not overwrite the only known-good copy.
- Test the game first with the current/default branch and current mods unchanged, then change one variable only if a specific mismatch points there.
- If the game fails, preserve logs and the branch/mod list; do not repeatedly load and save the campaign while testing.
| First observation | Isolate | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign worked before branch switch | Return only after backup; compare same mod set | Switch branch and mod list together |
| Failure after a mod update | Check mod version/dependency notes | Assume a community patch caused it |
| Save will not load | Keep original backup and note build | Save repeatedly over the last good copy |
| Advice refers to beta branch | Confirm branch name/date | Apply it to default branch unqualified |

Prepare a compatibility question
The issue report is a typed summary, not a support upload. Remove local file paths that reveal usernames and never attach private saves publicly.
- List build, branch, OS/store, DLC and mod names/versions.
- Describe the last successful action and first failure.
- Say whether a separate backup exists; do not attach it unless official support requests it through a secure route.
- Ask for a branch-specific check and include the official announcement link.

Frequently asked questions
Can a beta branch guarantee a bug fix?
No. A branch is a different build path, not a guarantee; read its notes and protect saves.
Will this preflight tell me if a mod is safe?
No. It only organizes version information you enter.
Are community patch reports official?
No. The linked forum is external user-generated discussion; the developer's own notes remain the official source.
