Preparing the interactive tool. Please wait; the guide and worked examples remain available below.
Use a target-first loadout
A useful loadout depends on what the expedition is for and which survival systems your scenario enables. Confirm needs in the current PDA and item descriptions instead of assuming an old guide's oxygen, food or medical quantities still fit.
| Trip type | Keep available | Return when |
|---|---|---|
| Nearby material scout | The tool currently required by the target, scenario-required survival items, open cargo space | Target area is reached or a required supply reaches your reserve floor |
| Unknown-point exploration | Navigation/reference point, recovery supplies, space for unknown finds | You cannot identify a safe return route or a core supply is depleted |
| Combat-adjacent salvage | Only gear your scenario currently supports and a clear retreat route | Condition/supplies become uncertain; do not extend for one extra container |
| Co-op resource loop | Host-verified server settings and shared cargo roles | Group loses the shared landmark/communication plan |

Departure and return procedure
- Read the current PDA/tutorial and scenario settings; list the survival requirements visible in this world.
- Write the trip's one target and check the current in-game recipe/tooltips for the tool that target needs.
- Reserve cargo room and bring only the supplies needed for the short route; a packed inventory cannot bring home a new find.
- Choose a visible landmark or map reference and a conservative return trigger before leaving.
- On return, compare what was consumed and what was found; update the ledger for this scenario rather than treating one outing as a universal result.
- If an instruction came from the community wiki or a forum thread, check its scenario and date first. Label unresolved discrepancies as unverified and consult current official support/forum material.

Not a fixed inventory recipe
Different scenarios, difficulty settings and Workshop content can change which items or risks apply. This checklist intentionally has no universal oxygen count, cargo stack, map coordinate or first-ship recipe.

Frequently asked questions
How many oxygen bottles should I carry?
This guide does not state a universal quantity. Scenario, settings and route matter; use the current in-game requirements and return reserve.
Does this guarantee a safe trip?
No. It is a risk-reduction planning checklist, not a guarantee or a tested survival-duration calculation.
