A base backup does not cover every vehicle
Funcom explicitly separates the Base Reconstruction Tool from the Vehicle Backup Tool. A cargo container is counted as a vehicle and is not included in the base backup. Do not treat a stored base as proof that vehicles, cargo containers or their contents will transfer.
- Back up each base you intend to bring with the Base Reconstruction Tool; the transfer notes say up to three bases can be stored there.
- Back up eligible vehicles with the Vehicle Backup Tool. If a larger or extra vehicle does not fit, Funcom recommends disassembling it with the Welding Torch and storing the parts in your bank or base storage.
- Treat a cargo container as a vehicle for this checklist. Confirm it and any valuable cargo have a supported destination before continuing.

Work through the transfer gates in order
The official transfer notes give a short list of hard gates and warn that some key items will not carry. The game shows the list before final confirmation; use that live list as authoritative for your character and target server.
| Check | Published rule or safe action | What this page cannot verify |
|---|---|---|
| Mode | Use this checklist for a multiplayer character; single-player characters are separate. | Which character is currently selected |
| Location | The character must be in Hagga Basin to start transfer. | Your current map or transfer UI state |
| Base and vehicles | Back up each separately with its matching tool. | Whether a particular base or vehicle backup completed |
| Inventory and bank | Review the contents you intend to take; both inventory and bank contents are listed as retained. | Item-specific exceptions; read the in-game loss list |
| Token and destination | One token starts available and replenishes seven days after use; check target server eligibility in the current UI. | Your account token or server status |
| Confirmation | Transfers are final; moving back requires a new transfer. | Undo, rollback timing or recovery for your account |

Do not retry a transfer error blindly
Funcom's November 3, 2026 hotfix notes say 1.5.15.4 fixed Error 972, which could leave a character missing or shown as level 0 in the main menu. That is a specific historical fix, not proof that every transfer problem has the same cause or that every platform is on the same build at this moment.
- Record the displayed error and platform/build; do not start a second transfer just because a character is temporarily absent from the menu.
- Check the official all-platform patch page and confirm your installed update has completed.
- If the character still appears missing or level 0, use Funcom support with the exact error, platform and transfer time rather than deleting or recreating the character.

Confirm mode and server-direction limits
Update 1.5 distinguishes single-player characters from multiplayer. Its notes also describe one-way boundaries for some server classes: official characters may move to official, private or self-hosted servers but not back to official; self-hosted characters can move among self-hosted servers. Do not infer unlisted private-server routes—check the destination choices shown for your character.
| Starting character | Officially documented direction | Safe check |
|---|---|---|
| Single-player | Separate character; an existing multiplayer character does not transfer into single-player. | Create the intended mode's character before investing time |
| Official server | May move among official servers or to private/self-hosted, not back to official. | Do not transfer away if you need the official-server return route |
| Self-hosted | May move between self-hosted servers. | Confirm both endpoints are in the supported class |
| Private server or other path | Not fully specified by the cited summary. | Trust the current destination list and help page, not an assumption |

Before you play
- I am preparing a multiplayer character, not assuming single-player progress transfers.
- I checked base backups and vehicle backups separately.
- I accounted for cargo containers and any oversized vehicle parts.
- My character is in Hagga Basin and my transfer token is available.
- I reviewed the exact in-game loss list and understand the transfer is final.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Base Reconstruction Tool back up my vehicles too?
No. Funcom's transfer guide calls for separate Base Reconstruction and Vehicle Backup tools and specifically says a cargo container counts as a vehicle, not a base.
Can I move an official character to a private server and later return?
The Update 1.5 notes say official-server characters may move to official, private or self-hosted servers, but not back to official servers. Check the live transfer UI before committing.
Can I undo a transfer?
Funcom says transfers are final; moving back requires another transfer. It documents one token replenishing seven days after use.

- Dune: Awakening — 1.2.40.0 Patch Notes (January 20, 2026) (Official)
Funcom documents character transfers between Sietches and Worlds, Hagga Basin as the start location, one token replenishing seven days after use, the final nature of transfers, retained inventory/bank/Solari and backup requirements for bases and vehicles. It says to review the in-game list of items that will be lost.
- Dune: Awakening — Console Release Patch Notes, Update 1.5 (September 17, 2026; last updated October 6) (Official)
The official 1.5 notes describe single-player as a separate character mode and explain supported character movement: official-server characters can move to official, private or self-hosted servers but not back to official; self-hosted characters can move among self-hosted servers. Bases and vehicles must be backed up before moving. The page includes platform-wide hotfix notes through 1.5.3.6.
- Dune: Awakening — 1.5.15.0 Patch Notes (latest notes updated November 3, 2026) (Official)
Funcom's current all-platform notes list hotfix 1.5.15.4 on November 3, including a fix for Error 972 that could make transferred characters disappear or show level 0. The 1.5.15.0 notes also describe a Base Reconstruction Tool placement crash fix, visibility and notification fixes; check the current live build before applying dated troubleshooting.
- Dune: Awakening — 1.2.30.0 Patch Notes: Base Reconstruction Tool (December 16, 2025) (Official)
The dated original tool notes say backups are stored per Sub-fief with a one-week cooldown, up to three bases can be stored, and placement can return to origin or use another legal position subject to stability and overlap. Later patch notes modify the tool, so verify the current UI and prompts.
