Turn a vague shortage into an unlock budget
Research unlocks special equipment, while the official store page describes that equipment as part of boat progression. Community references list dredging and other sources, but the available historical Steam thread shows why an apparent shortage does not establish one universal drop rate: players report different amounts and different experiences.
First write down the exact equipment you want and the Research Part cost shown in your own Research menu. Add only the costs you genuinely plan to pursue now, and retain any reserve you choose. The browser-local planner does not know your inventory or inspect a save.
- Open the Research screen and copy the visible part cost for each intended unlock; do not use an old screenshot if your build or DLC differs.
- Check your current pursuits, dredge spots and the Traveling Merchant through the game UI. Record what is actually available in this save rather than assuming a spot or stock refreshes on a fixed schedule.
- Enter your displayed part balance, a reserve and the list of costs. Use the result as arithmetic only; it does not rank equipment or promise a drop.
- If you consult the linked 2023 Steam discussion, note its date and that replies disagree about whether normal play yields enough parts.
- Before repeating a save/reload or merchant-refresh suggestion, check current patch notes and your own platform/version. Do not treat an old forum post as a current exploit or guaranteed farming route.
| Evidence | What it supports | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Current Research menu | Exact cost displayed for an unlock | How quickly future parts will appear |
| Current save's visible dredge or vendor state | What is available on this trip/day | A fixed, universal drop or refresh rate |
| April 2023 Steam discussion | Players had differing late-game experiences | A current guaranteed farming method |
| Your typed budget | Whether the costs fit the balance and reserve you entered | The best upgrade order or a completed unlock |

Ask the community with enough context
A useful question names platform, installed version, DLC, progression point, the exact Research Part balance, and which visible sources have already been checked. Avoid posting account details or private save files. Steam Discussions is external and user-generated; responses are player reports, not verified GamerWin advice or an official support resolution.
Example format: 'On [platform/build] with [DLC state], I have researched [items] and need [number] more parts for [unlock]. My active pursuits are [list]; I checked [visible dredge/vendor state]. Is there a current, version-matched source I missed?' The bracketed fields are prompts, not a fabricated player report.
Before you play
- I copied costs from the current Research screen.
- I recorded my platform, version, DLC state and progression before comparing advice.
- I treated older player posts as anecdotal, not a guaranteed rate.
- I reviewed and removed personal/account details before posting externally.
Frequently asked questions

Is save-and-reload vendor advice confirmed current?
No. The linked discussion is from April 2023 and has conflicting player replies. Check current patch notes and your own game before relying on it.
Does GamerWin host a DREDGE forum?
No. The discussion link opens Steam's external user-generated forum; GamerWin does not verify replies or publish them as reviews.
