Browser-local slot and packing check

DREDGE equipment loadout planner

Enter the category capacity and slot totals shown in your own boat screen.

Fits by total slots

9 slots used; 3 remain against your entered capacity.

A total-slot pass is not a grid-fit guarantee. DREDGE equipment has shapes; arrange it in-game before spending. This tool does not inspect a boat, save, edition or DLC.

Plan around the boat you actually have

DREDGE's official store description links equipment research and boat upgrades to reaching different fishing areas. The Dry Dock and upgrade references describe new equipment and cargo capacity, but an installed build, DLC ownership and current progression determine which options you see. Start from the in-game screen rather than a copied tier table.

A slot sum is only a first check. Equipment occupies shapes in the boat grid, so two loadouts with the same total slot count may pack differently. Preserve a screenshot or written list for yourself, then test the physical arrangement in the game before spending scarce materials.

  1. Open the Dry Dock or equivalent upgrade screen available in your current progression and note the slot total for the equipment category you are planning.
  2. List each currently planned item and the slot count shown by its current equipment card. Keep categories separate if the game uses separate rod, engine, light or net spaces.
  3. Read each candidate upgrade's visible lumber, metal, cloth, refined metal and money requirements; enter only the materials relevant to your next decision.
  4. Use the planner to compare the entered sum with the capacity. If the total fits, still arrange the item shapes in-game; a numeric fit is not a grid-fit guarantee.
  5. After installing an upgrade, recheck the displayed capacity and costs before reusing old notes, especially with DLC or a different platform build.
Planning questionUse this evidenceWhat the tool can conclude
Will all planned gear fit by total slots?Current slot capacity and each item's displayed slot countWhether the arithmetic sum is at or below the capacity
Will it physically fit in the boat grid? The live boat inventory layoutNothing; manually arrange shapes in-game
Can I afford a chosen upgrade?Material requirements displayed in the current upgrade panelThe sum of the costs you enter, not future availability
Which upgrade is optimal?Your current route, goal, equipment and risk toleranceNo universal ranking; choose for the next task

Make a useful run plan without assuming a best build

A faster engine, a new fishing method and more cargo all solve different constraints. The right order depends on what the next pursuit asks for and what the current boat can already equip. Treat this page as a packing-and-budget check, not a progression route or a claim that one upgrade order wins.

If a fish or quest asks for a habitat your current gear cannot reach, that capability may matter more than a general capacity increase. The store description confirms that research unlocks equipment; check the current Research and Shipwright panels to see whether an unlock must also be purchased and fitted before it helps.

Before you play

  • I used slot values and upgrade costs shown in my own installed build.
  • I separated equipment categories if the UI does.
  • I checked the actual grid layout after the arithmetic check.
  • I did not interpret a slot total as proof that the pieces fit physically.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculate whether equipment shapes fit?

No. It adds slot counts only. You must arrange and verify the shapes in DREDGE's boat inventory.

Are the listed upgrade prices built into the tool?

No. Enter the requirements visible in your own upgrade panel; the guide avoids a fixed cost table.

Was this tested with the Iron Rig or Pale Reach DLC?

No. The advice is limited to player-entered current UI values; no DLC progression or boat was tested.

Sources & revision notes

Editorial revision: November 7, 2026; not a gameplay test date. The reference notes identify source limits and version differences.

  1. DREDGE on Steam (Official)

Black Salt Games and Team17's store page describes DREDGE as a single-player fishing adventure with boat upgrades, researched equipment, timed trips and fish sales. Used to establish the broad loop and platform scope, not exact upgrade costs.

  2. DREDGE Wiki.gg: Dry Dock (Community)

Community-maintained reference checked November 7, 2026. It lists upgrade functions and unlock context. The planner deliberately asks for the slots and costs shown in the reader's own build instead of hard-coding DLC or patch-dependent values.

  3. DREDGE Wiki: Upgrades (Community)

Community-maintained upgrade list checked November 7, 2026. It documents that upgrades change inventory and equipment capacity; use in-game requirements as the final source because editions and DLC may affect available options.

  4. DREDGE Steam Community Discussions (Community)

External player-authored Steam discussions, not GamerWin comments or verified support. Forum advice can be old or conflicting; include platform, game version, DLC and the exact in-game screen when asking.

What changed in this revision

November 7, 2026: first publication. Added a reader-entered capacity and cost check; no boat, DLC, or upgrade path was tested.
