Divinity: Original Sin 2 platform preflight

Choose a feature and platform pair to see the Larian support boundary covered by our guides. Nothing is sent or saved; this cannot inspect game editions, accounts, saves, or installed mods.

Larian explicitly supports PC/Mac↔iPad cross-play. Confirm both clients' current edition/version and in-game lobby settings before inviting; this page cannot test connectivity.

Scope note: the listed Larian FAQs include older platform names while Larian has since announced newer console editions. An unlisted pairing is “not confirmed here,” not a claim that it is impossible. For device-level support or a specific account, contact Larian through its official support page.

iCloud route: verify both settings and the resulting file

Larian describes iCloud sync for saves available on other Apple devices with the same game syncing enabled. This should not be presented as a general cross-save promise for Windows, consoles, or accounts outside that documented Apple route.

  1. On iPad, enable iCloud syncing for Divinity 2 under Apple ID → iCloud.
  2. In iPad Settings → Divinity 2, enable “Store profiles and saves in iCloud.”
  3. Open Files → iCloud Drive and verify that the Divinity 2 Saves folder appears/syncs.
  4. Check the other Apple device uses the same iCloud account and has Divinity 2 syncing enabled before opening the intended profile.

Manual file copy: Finder for Mac, iTunes for PC

The paths and steps above follow Larian's support FAQ. A profile name, edition, or destination mismatch can make the expected save appear absent even when a folder was copied.

  1. Connect the iPad with USB and trust the device if prompted.
  2. On Mac, open Finder, select the iPad in Locations, choose Files, and expand Divinity 2. Copy the Larian Studios folder to the Mac before replacing anything on the iPad.
  3. On PC, open the iPad in iTunes, select File Sharing, choose Divinity 2, and save the Larian Studios folder to the PC.
  4. For the PC-side save, Larian lists `Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin 2: Definitive Edition\Player Profiles\<ProfileName>\Savegames`. Use the matching profile and preserve the folder structure.
  5. To copy back, use the corresponding Finder Files or iTunes File Sharing pane and verify the intended destination before replacing an existing folder.

Avoid overwriting the only known-good copy

Larian's article explains file transfer but cannot identify the newest save on your devices. Before replacing a folder, keep an untouched copy of the source folder and write down which device it came from. If the game lists multiple saves, compare their visible dates/names in the game before choosing one; do not treat a successful file copy as proof that the desired campaign loaded.

Limits and discussion

This is a source-based file-transfer checklist, not a tested migration. It does not inspect iCloud, a PC, a Mac, the iPad, or your save files. Larian's official forum and Steam Community can help compare symptoms, but player replies may refer to different editions or file paths; do not post personal identifiers or private save data.

Before you play

  • I checked which DOS2 edition and player profile the save belongs to.
  • I selected iCloud, Finder, or iTunes based on the source and destination devices.
  • I copied the original Larian Studios folder somewhere safe before replacing any destination copy.
  • I verified the resulting campaign in the correct profile rather than assuming the transfer succeeded.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move a DOS2 iPad save to a Mac?

Larian documents iCloud syncing for Apple devices and a manual Finder file-copy method between iPad and Mac.

Can I move an iPad save to a Windows PC?

Larian documents iTunes File Sharing between iPad and PC and names the PC-side Definitive Edition profile save path.

Does the iPad save FAQ prove that every console supports the same transfer?

No. It covers the iPad routes and devices listed by Larian; it does not establish general cross-save for every platform pair or newer console edition.

Can this page tell me which save is newest?

No. It cannot read device folders or cloud timestamps; compare the source and destination copies yourself and preserve a backup.

Sources & revision notes

Editorial revision: November 6, 2026; not a gameplay test date. The reference notes identify source limits and version differences.

  1. Larian Support: What platforms can I play Divinity: Original Sin 2 on? (Official)

Larian lists the supported PC/Mac storefronts, consoles and iPad, and specifically documents Steam–Switch cross-saves. This page does not establish cross-play or save compatibility for every possible platform pair.

  2. Larian Support: Can I cross-play with PC/Mac or other consoles on iPad? (Official)

Larian says PC/Mac and iPad cross-play is supported; its FAQ says iPad cross-play with PS4, Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions is not supported. Treat this as the explicit boundary documented on this page, not a claim about combinations it does not address.

  3. Larian Support: How to transfer saves to/from iPad (Official)

Larian's documented iCloud/Finder/iTunes file-copy steps for iPad and Apple/PC devices. The article identifies the save-folder location and supported transfer methods; check the current game edition and profile folder before copying.

  4. Larian Support: Do you support modding? (Official)

Larian says modding is supported on PC, and that many popular mods have been developed into free Gift Bags for console players. Do not infer that arbitrary PC mods install on consoles.

  5. Larian: Divinity: Original Sin 2 arrives on Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (Official)

Larian's platform release notice and FAQ. Newer console editions do not automatically inherit every older-console cross-play or save statement; confirm the exact edition and route.

External player posts may be helpful for comparing symptoms but are anecdotal and may concern different storefronts, mod sets or editions.
