Dinkum platform compatibility preflight

Local source-based checklist. It does not connect players, accounts, consoles or saves.

Do not assume compatibility: KRAFTON's cross-platform FAQ says there are no current Steam–Nintendo cross-play plans. Do not plan a shared session on the assumption that these platforms can join each other.

Next: Check the official announcement feed for a newer change, then confirm both players' builds.

Sources: KRAFTON Cross-Platform & Updates FAQ (updated December 5, 2025) and official Dinkum Steam announcements (October 29, 2026 platform schedule). Recheck these sources before acting; the planner does not monitor for later changes.

Three separate questions, three different answers

'Can my friends join?', 'can I move my save?', and 'does this recipe exist on my version?' are not the same compatibility check. The KRAFTON FAQ says cross-play had no current plans, cross-save was planned without concrete details, and platform updates may differ. A dated October 29, 2026 Steam announcement then said no update bringing PC content to Nintendo was scheduled for the remainder of that year; it also said plans to port PC content had not been discontinued.

Before inviting a friend

For the Switch version, KRAFTON's Gameplay FAQ says multiplayer supports up to four. This is a Switch player-count statement, not evidence that four-player sessions work across Steam and Switch. Check the current official instructions for each platform and the newest compatibility announcement before buying a second copy or rebuilding a save around co-op.

  1. Write down each player's actual platform (Steam/PC or Nintendo Switch family) and installed version from their own game/update screen.
  2. If platforms differ, stop and check the newest official cross-play statement; the dated FAQ did not support assuming cross-play.
  3. If platforms match, follow that platform's official multiplayer steps and compare build/update state before changing firewall, account or save settings.
  4. If cross-save is the goal instead of co-op, preserve both originals and wait for a concrete official release procedure; the FAQ's word 'planned' is not a transfer guide.

Before following a recipe or feature guide

The FAQ explicitly warns that Switch 1.0.2 preceded the Night Market version and that some recipes/features can differ from the latest PC/Steam wiki. The October 29, 2026 announcement stated that no update bringing PC content to Nintendo was scheduled for the rest of 2026. Neither source says every recipe differs, nor do they promise a date for the next Nintendo content update.

  1. Check that the guide names the same platform and patch/build as your game.
  2. Look for the recipe and ingredients in your own crafting UI; treat that as the operative check for your save.
  3. If the source is a wiki or player post, compare its revision/platform note and confirm against official notices instead of spending rare materials first.
  4. If the documented schedule changes, revisit this page's official announcement links; GamerWin does not poll publisher news automatically.

A visitor disconnected: what October actually changed

The official October update says it added an option allowing island visitors to save progress even if unexpectedly disconnected. The announcement does not give a menu label here or promise recovery of every task/item after every crash, so do not tell a visitor that the host can restore unsaved progress. Check the live multiplayer options and current patch notes before a long session.

  1. Before inviting guests, have the host inspect the current multiplayer options for the new visitor-progress save setting.
  2. Agree on how guests will confirm their own progress before ending a session; do not assume the option can retroactively recover earlier disconnects.
  3. If a disconnect occurs, each player should check their own state after rejoining and record the exact build and result before attempting a rollback.

Before you play

  • Record both players' platforms and displayed game builds.
  • Do not treat Switch four-player support as proof of cross-play.
  • Cross-save was planned in the FAQ but no concrete details were given there.
  • For recipes/features, prefer the platform's own crafting UI over a mismatched PC wiki.
  • Recheck later official announcements; the status here is date-bounded.
