Choose a realm and campaign starting point

Compare your intended play style with Blizzard's published character-start routes; confirm the final choice in-game.

Suggested next check
Diablo IV character-start route (based on your selections)
Suggested realm: Seasonal, if you want the current season's fresh-start progression and season rewards. Blizzard describes Eternal as the persistent route for existing characters.
Campaign note: if you have completed the campaign before, check Character Select for the official skip option; the planner cannot inspect account-wide story state.
Season rewards and system rules can change. Treat this as a route planner, then verify the choices shown by the current game client.

Review Blizzard's realm and campaign-start options

Pick the realm by the character you want to play

Seasonal and Eternal are not difficulty choices. Blizzard describes Seasonal as a fresh start with season rewards and Eternal as a persistent space for long-term characters. If your priority is to continue the exact character already in your roster, do not create a new seasonal character expecting it to be that same character.

Campaign skip and expansion starts are separate decisions

Blizzard says campaign completion on one character unlocks the skip option for other characters regardless of realm. Its Lord of Hatred post lists an Expansion 1 start (Vessel of Hatred), an Expansion 2 start (Lord of Hatred), and a Story Complete endgame start available after finishing Lord of Hatred. The Lord of Hatred campaign itself requires the expansion purchase.

  1. Before character creation, decide whether you want the fresh seasonal route or a persistent Eternal character.
  2. If you want the Lord of Hatred story, verify that Lord of Hatred is owned on the platform you will launch.
  3. Select the campaign start that matches what you have actually completed and purchased; do not choose Story Complete unless the game shows it as unlocked.
  4. If another character completed the campaign, check Character Select for the skip option; Blizzard says this unlock can apply across realms.
  5. If the option differs from this guide, follow the current game screen and check Blizzard's newest patch/season notice before proceeding.

Worked route examples

Example A: a returning player who wants the same long-term character chooses Eternal, then checks whether the Lord expansion is owned before attempting its campaign. Example B: a player seeking a new seasonal climb chooses Seasonal; if a campaign was completed previously, they check whether skip appears for the new character. These are decision examples from published rules, not tested saves or guarantees about a particular account.

Use the planner without treating it as an account check

The planner translates your goal, self-reported campaign completion, and Lord of Hatred ownership into a cautious next step. It never connects to Battle.net and cannot prove a campaign was completed or unlock an option. Verify the prompt in-game before confirming a character.

Scope and maintenance

Realm recommendations and seasonal rewards are time-sensitive. This page reflects Blizzard's posted Lord of Hatred/Season of Reckoning campaign options checked November 6, 2026; later seasonal posts can supersede details. It is not a leveling build, class tier list, or promise that an expansion purchase is recognized. Community forums are player-authored, not verified by GamerWin.

  • Both realms are described as offering the campaigns, classes, and endgame core.
  • Campaign completion unlocks skip for other characters according to Blizzard.
  • Lord of Hatred campaign requires the expansion; Story Complete follows campaign completion.
  • Verify the current character-select choices; the planner cannot inspect your profile.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose Seasonal or Eternal for an existing character?

Choose Eternal if you want to continue that persistent character. A new Seasonal character is a separate fresh start.

Can a Seasonal character play the Lord of Hatred campaign?

Blizzard's campaign notice lists a new character on either Seasonal or Eternal as a start route, but the Lord of Hatred expansion must be purchased.

When does Story Complete unlock?

Blizzard lists Story Complete after completing the Lord of Hatred campaign. It also says completing a campaign on one character unlocks campaign skip for others.

Will this planner tell me what I own?

No. Ownership and completion are self-reported inputs; check the actual platform library and character-select screen.
