First split: update availability versus expansion entitlement
A client can contain shared update files before every player has access to every expansion activity. Blizzard's release notes explicitly said the 3.0.0 pre-download was available regardless of whether the expansion had been purchased; the same post separates permanent updates for all players from expansion-only campaigns and regions. That distinction explains why seeing a new version or installed files does not establish ownership.
| What you see or want | What the official notice supports | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Patch/pre-download is installed | The patch download alone does not require expansion ownership | Check the platform library/store and the account signed into the game |
| Start Vessel of Hatred campaign or enter its expansion content | The campaign and expansion-only content require Vessel of Hatred entitlement | Verify Vessel of Hatred in the exact storefront used to launch |
| Start Lord of Hatred campaign | Blizzard says the Lord campaign requires purchasing that expansion | Verify Lord of Hatred entitlement on the platform used to play |
| Use base-game skill/itemization/system updates | Blizzard lists permanent system updates separately from expansion content | Check the current patch notes; do not infer the expansion campaign is included |

A safe five-step entitlement check
Keep platform ownership separate from Battle.net identity. Blizzard's cross-play announcement and Steam launch notice describe shared play/progression and the Steam account-link requirement; neither says that connecting accounts transfers the base-game or expansion license between stores.
- Write down the platform and storefront that will actually launch the game: Battle.net PC, Steam PC, Xbox, or PlayStation.
- Confirm Diablo IV base-game access in that platform's library. Blizzard states the expansions require the base game.
- Check the exact expansion you need: Vessel of Hatred for its campaign, or Lord of Hatred for its campaign. Do not substitute an installed patch for that store record.
- If using Steam, confirm you own the Steam edition and that it is linked to the intended Battle.net account, as Blizzard's Steam notice requires.
- Restart the launcher/game after confirming the correct account and platform update. If the campaign remains unavailable, compare the platform's transaction/library record with Blizzard Support; do not buy the same expansion again just to test an assumption.

Do not overread a bundle or a linked account
Blizzard's Lord of Hatred purchase article says the listed Lord of Hatred editions include Vessel of Hatred and require the base game. That is a statement about those named editions, not every historical purchase, platform store, region, or bundle still listed today. Open the edition details for your own platform and verify the entitlements recorded in that store. Cross-play/cross-progression is not the same claim as cross-buy.

Use the checklist, then verify in the game
Select the platform, base-game access, expansion ownership, and intended campaign below. The result tells you which record to verify next; it cannot read a receipt, detect an account mismatch, or guarantee that an expansion campaign will appear. If the store lists the entitlement but the client does not, use Blizzard's official support path and include the platform and edition—not passwords or payment details.

Version and platform boundary
This page is checked against Blizzard's Lord of Hatred campaign and purchase notices available November 6, 2026 and an earlier Vessel of Hatred launch explainer. Expansion names, editions, and screens can change. It does not compare prices, provide build advice, inspect an account, or guarantee that ownership is recognized. Community forum and Reddit posts are user-generated and not verified fixes.

Before you play
- Check base-game access in the platform where you will launch.
- Confirm the specific expansion campaign, not just an installed update.
- For Steam, confirm the Steam purchase and intended linked Battle.net account.
- Do not infer a license transfer from cross-play or account linking.
- If the store says owned but the game disagrees, use official support with platform and edition details.
Frequently asked questions
Does downloading patch 3.0.0 mean I own Lord of Hatred?
No. Blizzard explicitly said the patch pre-download was available whether or not a player had purchased the expansion; the campaign itself requires the expansion.
Does linking Battle.net to Steam transfer my Diablo IV license?
Blizzard says Steam players need to purchase Diablo IV on Steam and connect a Battle.net account. Do not treat account linking as a license transfer.
Does Lord of Hatred include Vessel of Hatred?
Blizzard's Lord of Hatred purchase article lists Vessel of Hatred among the included expansions for the editions it describes. Verify the exact edition and platform-store record you own.
Can this checker verify my account?
No. It uses selections made in your browser and does not connect to Battle.net, Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, or a payment account.
