Read the terminal before choosing a cave
The mission terminal is a planning screen, not just a launch button. The official wiki's starter guide distinguishes the primary objective, a secondary objective, and the mission's Length and Cave Complexity. These settings tell you what the team is signing up to complete and how much cave to navigate; they do not reveal exact terrain or enemy events.
- Open the in-game Miner's Manual for controls and class basics before launch.
- If you want a straightforward first objective and Mining Expedition is offered, use it as a learning run; do not treat that as the only valid beginner choice.
- Read the selected mission's primary and secondary objectives, then choose a Hazard your crew is comfortable learning on.
- Check Mission Length and Cave Complexity separately: lower values reduce the planned scale, but generated terrain still varies.

Do the required job before optional detours
The primary objective is the success condition to protect. Secondary objectives and loose resources can be valuable, but chasing them through an unfamiliar cave can leave a new team separated or out of time. Agree aloud or by ping before splitting up; a checklist cannot know your team's ammo, health, experience or cave position.
| What you see | Useful next action | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Primary objective still incomplete | Follow the objective markers/readout and make progress together | Starting extraction because optional loot is done |
| Secondary objective is nearly complete and route is safe | Finish it if the team can regroup without risking the primary objective | Sending one new player far away alone |
| Team is low on ammo/health or navigation is unclear | Regroup, check Nitra/resupply and mark the route back | Treating gold or every loose resource as mandatory |
| Required objective is complete and the team is ready | Use the M.U.L.E. extraction sequence and regroup toward the pod | Assuming a player left behind will always be rescued automatically |

Make communication useful and low-friction
A new player does not need to memorize every class interaction before the first dive. Keep the crew together, use the in-game pointer/pings on objectives or hazards, and ask before consuming shared resupply. If something differs from this article, record the exact mission type, modifier, platform and build rather than turning one cave into a universal rule.

What this guide does not establish
This is source-based orientation, not a tested speedrun, class ranking or guaranteed extraction route. The wiki is community maintained even though it is the developer-supported Official Deep Rock Galactic Wiki. Check your in-game Manual and current Mission Terminal; use official announcements for dated content changes.

Before you play
- I checked primary and secondary objectives before launch.
- I noticed Hazard, Mission Length and Cave Complexity rather than assuming cave scale.
- I agreed with the crew before detouring for an optional objective.
- I stayed with the team and regrouped before extraction.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mining Expedition always easiest?
The official community wiki recommends it as a first mission. That is a starting suggestion, not a promise that its generated cave or modifiers will be easy.
Should I mine every resource before leaving?
No universal route can answer that for every crew. Prioritize the primary objective and team safety; treat detours as a decision based on the actual cave and crew.
Where can I ask other players?
The Steam Discussions link opens player-run conversations. Treat community replies as unverified, and include your build, mission type and exact issue.
