Identify the mod channel before troubleshooting
The supported in-game Mods menu uses mod.io and is listed for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The mod page's Available on consoles tag is the compatibility check for a specific mod. Third-party PC mods installed outside that menu follow a different official support path; do not apply Windows folder cleanup steps to console or Switch 2.
| What you used | Scope to follow | First verification |
|---|---|---|
| In-game Mods menu / mod.io | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 per support article | Installed tab shows the mod and its checkbox is selected; check console availability tag. |
| Third-party mods outside the menu | PC only | Record the mod manager/install method and review CDPR's clean-install instructions before file changes. |
| No mods | Standard game troubleshooting | Use the official support route for the exact symptom; this guide does not diagnose the client. |

Try a reversible isolation step first
For issues after in-game mods, CD PROJEKT RED says to disable or unsubscribe from installed mods and see whether the problem remains. It does not guarantee that this repairs a save: the support page warns that mod effects can persist. Avoid overwriting the only save with a test run.
- Record platform, game version and whether the mod came from the in-game menu or outside it.
- If the issue followed an update, check for updated versions of subscribed mods.
- For in-game mods, disable/unsubscribe through the Mods menu and retry only on a separate or backed-up save.
- If the symptom stops, report it to the mod creator on that mod's page with a minimal reproducible description.
- If it remains, consider whether the affected save predates mod use; preserve current files and use official support if no safe earlier save exists.

Distinguish modded saves and console achievements
CD PROJEKT RED says a save created while mods were enabled is considered modded and marked with the mod.io cog. On consoles, achievements and trophies are disabled on modded save files. The marker explains the game's classification; it is not a security warning or proof that the save is damaged.

Treat clean install as a destructive, separate procedure
For third-party PC mods, CD PROJEKT RED's support flow points to a clean install and instructs players to back up saves first. That procedure removes game and local data folders. This guide does not automate it: read the official instructions in full, verify the backup exists outside the folders being removed, and do not copy cleanup steps to console.
- Confirm the issue involves third-party PC mods—not just an in-game mod.io subscription.
- Back up the save folder using CDPR's official path and verify the copy before deleting or reinstalling anything.
- Read the current clean-install instructions and check cloud-save implications for your launcher.
- If the operation could remove the only save or you are unsure which folder is safe, stop and ask official support before proceeding.

Community notes are leads, not verified fixes
Steam Discussions may contain platform-specific or old patch reports. Check the post date, platform, game version, and mod channel, then compare the claim with CD PROJEKT RED's support pages. Do not paste login credentials, private account details or unredacted saves into a public post.

Before you play
- Separate the in-game mod.io menu from third-party PC mods.
- Check whether a mod update followed the game update.
- Disable in-game mods only as a controlled test; preserve the original save.
- If effects persist, use a separate save from before mod use rather than overwriting the only copy.
- Back up before following the official PC clean-install process.
Frequently asked questions
Does turning mods off undo changes to a save?
Not necessarily. CD PROJEKT RED warns that mod effects may remain in save files; an earlier save from before mod use may be needed.
Are achievements available on a console modded save?
The publisher says console trophies and achievements are disabled on modded save files.
Does the tool inspect my files or unsubscribe mods?
No. It uses only your selections in the current page and performs no file or account action.
