Know what the official map description guarantees

The developer's 1.5.0 announcement describes TSL Earth as a Huge handcrafted map intended to resemble real-world geography, including terrain, rivers, resources and Natural Wonder locations. It says campaigns begin in Antiquity, with a historic starting location tied to the chosen civilization's historic capital. Those are map-level design notes—not a promise of an identical opening for every civilization or seed.

Setup or observationWhat the official note saysWhat to check in your game
The campaign opens in AntiquityAll TSL Earth campaigns start in AntiquityConfirm the selected map actually is TSL Earth and note the current build
A civilization starts in a different region than expectedHistoric start is based on the selected civilization's historic capitalCheck whether historic or randomized start locations were selected; note civilization and seed
Natural Wonders differ between mapsSeven are selected from a randomized poolCompare the same seed and map settings before treating a different wonder set as a bug
Nile or Amazon appears navigableMajor waterways including the Nile and Amazon are Navigable Rivers in the official overviewInspect the tile classification and current map; do not assume every river has identical movement rules
Europe, Hawaii or Japan looks enlargedThe official description says those areas were magnified for gameplayTreat the map as a designed play space, not a tile-accurate projection

A reproducible start-location check

When a starting location looks wrong, compare like with like. A historic-start option and a randomized-start option are not the same test, and a different seed can change randomized resource/wonder details.

  1. Record the installed platform and exact build shown by the game or launcher.
  2. Confirm the selected map is True Start Location Earth rather than Randomized Earth, Shuffle, Terra Incognita or another map type.
  3. Record the chosen civilization, start-location setting, game mode and map seed if shown.
  4. Check that the opening is in Antiquity. Then compare the location with the historic-capital description only if historic locations were selected.
  5. For wonder or resource differences, compare the same seed and settings. The official note says seven wonders come from a randomized pool; it does not promise a particular set for every map.
  6. If the case still looks inconsistent, capture the map setup and a map view, hide profile details, then compare reports from the same build and platform.

Move to patch triage if the map result is unexpected

If your start location or resource differs from expectations, use the linked 1.5.0 hotfix guide to record build, map type, civilization, seed and Age before changing settings. The checker there does not generate a start, reveal a seed, inspect your save or decide whether your map is bugged.

Patch boundary and discussion

At the time this page was checked, the official announcement feed said Update 1.5.1 was expected the week of November 9, 2026, and separately noted a later submission timeline for the 1.5.0 hotfix on Switch/Switch 2. Treat those as dated statements, not a guarantee of current rollout. Recheck the live update notes and use player discussions only as same-build comparison material.

Before you play

  • I recorded the actual map type, start mode, civilization and build.
  • I checked the Antiquity start and did not mix historic and randomized locations.
  • I compared wonders/resources only against the same seed and settings.
  • I rechecked current patch notes after the announced 1.5.1 window.
