Confirm this is the right game, user and edition
Nintendo's eShop listing identifies the original Switch software as supporting Save Data Cloud; the feature requires Nintendo Switch Online. Cloud operations are per Nintendo Account/user, and Nintendo warns that a manual download overwrites the local copy. Do not treat a newer-looking timestamp as permission to overwrite until you have confirmed the profile and edition.
| State | Check on console | Safe decision |
|---|---|---|
| Local progress may be newest | Open the correct user and inspect the game's save/cloud status | Do not download an older cloud copy over it |
| Cloud appears to be newest | Compare the account, backup state and date/time | Download only after accepting replacement of the local copy |
| Wrong user or edition shown | Confirm the Switch profile and software icon/options | Stop; do not transfer between profiles by guessing |
| No cloud option / membership issue | Check software-specific Save Data Cloud support and NSO status | Use Nintendo's current transfer/support steps instead of repeated restores |

Use a two-copy decision before restore
Nintendo's cloud restore is an overwrite operation. Keep the newest local progress safe by avoiding a download until the in-console timestamps and user identity are clear; cloud changes on multiple consoles can also replace a server backup.
- Close Breath of the Wild on every console that may use the same Nintendo Account.
- From the HOME menu, open the software options for Breath of the Wild and inspect Save Data Cloud for the intended user.
- Record which copy is local and which backup is on the server; confirm both are for the correct account and Switch edition.
- If the local copy is valuable or newer, do not download over it; verify whether a safe backup/transfer option exists for your specific consoles.
- If you choose Download Save Data, confirm you accept that it replaces the existing console save and cannot be undone.
- Launch the game only after the transfer completes; verify the expected profile before allowing another automatic backup to overwrite cloud data.
