Score candidates using your own planned workload
A settlement location is a logistics decision. Since official sources describe gathering, hunting, crafting and settlement growth without prescribing a single coordinate, compare reachable options by the jobs your save needs next.
| Check | Good sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Access | You can reach the current quest/resource route without an awkward detour | A key trip repeatedly crosses dangerous or inconvenient terrain |
| Buildable room | The first planned structures fit with a path between them | The site is attractive but leaves no practical expansion space |
| Work travel | Resource collection, storage and production can be tested in a compact loop | Workers or player must repeatedly cross the whole camp for one chain |
| Future expansion | There is a plausible next-step area for storage/production/defense | A move or major rebuild appears necessary immediately |

A reversible scouting procedure
- List the next three things the settlement must support in your current save: for example, an active quest route, basic crafting, and room for the next planned structure.
- Walk a short candidate-site loop with ordinary gear and note access, hazards and usable flat/clear area; do not dismantle a functioning camp just to test a guide's coordinate.
- Place or plan only the minimum first footprint using the current build/planning tools shown in your version; check the layout before consuming scarce materials.
- After the first work loop, note where travel or storage is obstructed and change one placement at a time.
- Check official patch notes if planning, roads, workers or controller navigation changed in your update; treat screenshots and Reddit layout examples as player-specific UGC, not verified universal blueprints.

Build version warning
Bellwright is still marked Early Access on the Steam page. A coordinate, building footprint or worker behavior from a different patch or platform may not transfer. This guide provides a decision method rather than a tested location, optimal layout or performance claim.

Before you play
- I compared candidate sites using the same needs.
- I reserved room for the next planned structure.
- I tested a short route before moving valuable stock.
- I checked update notes before relying on a dated layout screenshot.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the objectively best first base?
The cited official sources do not specify a best coordinate. Choose using your actual resource/quest routes and expansion plan.
Is this a tested worker pathing layout?
No. It is a site-selection checklist; no save, pathing route or build footprint was tested.
