Build a reversible troubleshooting baseline
The official 1.9 announcement established mod support and listed supported PC storefronts/operating systems. It does not certify individual community mods or every combination of DLC.
- Record store, OS, displayed build, DLC and mod names/versions.
- Copy saves/configuration to a separate location before changing the installation; preserve one untouched backup.
- Compare each mod's stated supported version and dependencies with your exact build.
- Reproduce once with your existing setup and capture the visible symptom before changing anything.
- If testing unmodded behavior, change only the mod state after preserving the baseline; don't mix reinstall, branch changes and save conversion into one attempt.
- Use the current official support route for persistent crashes, and remove private usernames or account data from any logs shared publicly.
| Mismatch clue | Next controlled check | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Mod instructions name older patch | Compare exact release and dependencies | Official mod support does not promise compatibility |
| MechBay data disappears | Stop writing to the save; preserve backup | Do not assume reinstall recovers data |
| Instructions name another OS/store | Check platform-specific paths | A PC path is not universal |
| Issue occurs without mods too | Record a minimal reproducible case | This does not identify a game bug by itself |

Ask the community without exposing private data
A version-matched report is more actionable than 'my install is broken.' Steam Discussions are external and user-generated; they are not official support.
- State OS, store, patch, DLC and mod/dependency versions.
- Describe the MechBay action and expected versus visible result.
- Say whether the issue occurs in a clean test after backing up, if you have safely performed that test.
- Never upload credentials, purchase receipts or your only copy of a save.

Before you play
- I kept a separate unmodified save backup.
- I recorded storefront, OS, patch, DLC and mods.
- I compared mod author notes with the exact build.
- I isolated one change before retesting.
Frequently asked questions
Does official mod support mean every mod is safe?
No. It means the game supports modding; compatibility and safety remain mod-specific and unverified here.
Does the guide cover console versions?
No. Its scope is the PC store/platform set named in the 1.9 announcement.
Will the report builder send my logs?
No. It only assembles text locally; you choose whether to share anything.
