Understand which copy is at risk
Larian states Cross-Save syncs a copy of the last ten saves to its servers for up to six months, while each save should also be stored locally on PC or console. Its notice says inactive server cross-saves older than six months began expiring on September 29, 2026. Do not confuse server retention with your console/PC save directory.
| Copy | What Larian says | Safe check |
|---|---|---|
| Larian cross-save copy | Last ten saves, retained up to six months | Open the game/account and check which campaigns appear |
| Local PC/console save | Should remain stored on that device | Confirm the campaign loads locally before relying on cloud |
| Inactive old cloud copy | May expire under the Sep 29, 2026 notice | Download/retain a needed copy through supported account tools promptly |
| Cross-platform availability | Requires linked Larian account on the target | Sign in on the intended platform and confirm the right profile |

Preserve the campaign without relying on retention
The cross-save is a copy, not a substitute for the local platform save. Larian says its account tools can let players download a save for backup/support, but the exact workflow and device paths depend on platform. Keep at least one local copy and avoid modifying files during an account-retention check.
- List the platform(s) and Larian account you use, then identify the campaign and its newest known in-game save.
- On each device, launch the game and confirm the expected character/campaign is available locally before changing accounts or reinstalling.
- Check the Larian cross-save list for the intended copy; remember only the last ten are synced and old inactive copies may expire.
- If you need an extra backup, use Larian's current account-download or platform-supported backup method; keep the original files untouched.
- When moving platforms, sign into the same Larian account and verify the campaign appears in the game's Load menu before removing anything from the old device.
- If a save is missing, stop cloud toggles and file replacement; collect platform, date, account identity privately and follow Larian/platform support.
