Separate connection, rate and stored energy
The community Power reference uses U for stored energy and U/s for flow. Platforms joined by normal cables share a network; directional cables can impose one-way behavior. A battery may keep a process moving briefly, but it does not make an undersupplied network sustainable once empty.
The same reference says many machines run at reduced speed when underpowered. A slow printer therefore needs a gauge check, not an immediate assumption that the recipe is broken. A completely dark or red cable may indicate no supply or a disconnected network.
- Select the idle Small Printer or Furnace and confirm it is attached to a platform or connected module network.
- Trace its cable toward a generator or charged storage device. Check for a missing plug or directional link pointed away from the consumer.
- Read the network gauge while the module is on. Compare production plus usable discharge with the active U/s demand, not only battery capacity in U.
- Check that the selected printer recipe has materials. For the Furnace, check smeltable input and free room for finished output.
- Change one condition—connection, supply, input or output—and watch the module status before scaling the entire network.

Use a fault table before adding generators
The official Wiki's Small Printer entry lists 1 U/s, and its Furnace entry lists 5 U/s. Those are nominal demands; use your installed display if different. When both run on one network, a source providing only 4 U/s would be short of their combined 6 U/s demand. Disconnecting an unrelated module or improving supply can diagnose a rate shortage.
The Furnace reference also says processing stops when no free storage can receive output. That is an output blockage, not a power deficit. More generators will not create an empty slot.
| Observation | First missing dependency | Controlled test |
|---|---|---|
| Cable dark or red at module | Supply or physical connection | Reconnect plugs and inspect source/gauge |
| Module runs slowly | U/s demand exceeds available flow | Pause another consumer or increase verified generation |
| Furnace powered but no output | Input absent or finished slots full | Add one smeltable input or free one output slot |
| Battery empties and module stops | Stored U masking ongoing shortage | Compare sustainable generation U/s with active demand |

Worked example: 4 U/s cannot fully serve 6 U/s
Illustrative network calculation, not a measured base: one Small Printer (1 U/s) and one Smelting Furnace (5 U/s) run at the same time. Their nominal combined demand is 6 U/s. If the connected source provides 4 U/s and storage is empty, the network lacks 2 U/s for full-rate operation. The right question is whether a load can be paused or a stable source added; a larger empty battery alone does not change generation.
If the gauge instead shows adequate supply but the Furnace still does not produce, inspect its input and output slots. This prevents conflating a logistics bottleneck with power.

Record an actual base result
For a reproducible correction, note the platform connections, generator type and rate, charged storage, gauge while both modules are active, Furnace input and free output slots, and what changed after one adjustment.
This guide does not promise a particular solar or wind production level on every planet. Weather and time affect supply; the network gauge is the evidence for the current moment.

Frequently asked questions
Will a larger battery fix a permanent power shortfall?
No. It stores more energy, but a sustained demand above generation will drain it. Compare U/s supply with active U/s load.
Why did the Furnace stop with plenty of power?
The cited Furnace page says it stops when there is no free output storage; check both smeltable input and finished-item space.
