Verify the creature and who claimed it

The community-maintained ASA imprint page says the default configuration allows only the player who claimed a newborn baby to imprint it. A tribe member can help with ordinary feeding or protection without necessarily being the eligible imprinter. First identify the claimant and have that same account perform the requested interaction; do not assume ownership can be transferred by changing a multiplier.

  1. Confirm the game is Survival Ascended, then note client build, server build and mode.
  2. Ask who claimed the baby immediately after it hatched or was born; use that player for the imprint attempt.
  3. Check whether the creature has a current care request and read the exact displayed action before using an item or moving it.
  4. If the claim history is uncertain, take a screenshot of the prompt and ask in the official or player discussion channel rather than testing destructive changes on a valuable baby.

Match the current request instead of repeating a guessed action

The community wiki lists distinct care interactions such as cuddling, a requested food item or a short walk, and says a care action starts a timer before the next request. A request may not match the creature's diet intuition. Use the on-screen request as the instruction; do not feed an arbitrary food or keep pressing interact when no care prompt is ready.

Do not confuse a missed request with erased progress

The community wiki states that imprinting already gained is permanent and does not decay when later requests are neglected. That does not mean a missed request grants affinity: it means the earlier amount remains while the baby continues maturing. If your schedule cannot cover future requests, use the estimator only as a rough planning aid and verify the live timer rather than trying to reset a request with a cryopod.

  1. Record current affinity, maturity stage and the next request timer before changing anything.
  2. Use the same claimant for the next eligible care; note exactly which interaction completed and what the displayed affinity became.
  3. If the request is unwanted, the ASA wiki notes cryopodding no longer rerolls it; do not treat older ASE advice as current ASA behavior.
  4. Keep multipliers unchanged while diagnosing one baby. On a private server, preserve the exact Game.ini values and test changes separately before applying them to a live world.

Post a useful player report

Player discussions are useful for finding similar symptoms, not for proving that a setting works on every server. A reproducible report should include ASA, client and server builds, platform, mode, claimant, exact care request, displayed timer/affinity, relevant multiplier values and whether Single Player Settings or an event is active. Never upload account credentials, private saves or untrusted downloads.

Before you play

  • I identified the player who claimed the baby and used that player for care.
  • I followed the current on-screen care request rather than an assumed diet or older guide.
  • I recorded current affinity and timer; I did not assume missed care erased previous affinity.
  • I did not cryopod to reroll a request or change live rates before recording the evidence.

Frequently asked questions

Can another tribe member do the imprint?

The community wiki says the default configuration allows the player who claimed the newborn to imprint it. Server changes or mods may alter behavior, so record the effective rules.

Did missing one imprint erase all earlier progress?

The ASA community wiki says affinity already gained is permanent and will not decay if later care is missed. A missed request still does not grant new affinity.

Can I cryopod the baby to get a different request?

The community wiki says this no longer works in ASA after a silent change. Do not rely on older ASE or pre-change advice.

  1. ARK: Survival Ascended on Steam (Official)

Developer/publisher store listing checked November 5, 2026; identifies ARK: Survival Ascended as a distinct product. It is not a mechanics reference for breeding settings.

  2. Studio Wildcard: ASA server patch notes, v96.6 page (Official)

Official publisher forum page checked November 5, 2026. Its title/update identifies v96.6, while a separate line on the same page says the Official ARK Server Network is at v94.22.
