Know which score source you are pursuing
The official overview distinguishes timed/resource Economy Challenges, purchasable Tycoon Packages and the final Economic Victory condition. A large stockpile by itself is not proof that the victory timer is running.
| System | Official description | Planning question |
|---|---|---|
| Economy Challenge | Meet a listed milestone; placement/time can award score | Which visible challenge can my economy safely complete next? |
| Tycoon Package | Available from Commerce Age; bonus diminishes each purchase then recovers | Is this purchase better now or after its bonus recovers? |
| Economic Victory | 10,000-point lead + final Age + hold for five minutes | Can I preserve the lead while meeting the age and hold conditions? |

Build a match-specific score plan
Because the page predates later balance updates, use it for the named systems and confirm thresholds in the active Tycoon HUD. Avoid assuming a fixed resource package or universal civilization timing.
- At match start, confirm the mode is Tycoon and read its current victory/rule panel; do not import Treaty or Supremacy assumptions.
- Choose a visible Economy Challenge that matches the resources your civilization/map can gather without abandoning basic safety.
- Record challenge progress, package purchase timing and the score change shown by the HUD.
- After reaching Commerce Age, compare the current package bonus with its diminished/recovery state before buying repeatedly.
- When approaching the official victory route, verify all three displayed conditions: final Age, required score lead, and the five-minute hold.
- If the lead breaks or the timer resets, use the actual HUD state to reassess; do not claim that a local worksheet predicts the opponent's response.

Compare community reports cautiously
A forum strategy may assume a particular civilization, map, patch or opponent. When asking for advice, include those details and a screenshot of the relevant Tycoon challenge/score panel only after removing usernames or other private information. Community examples are not official scoring rules.

Frequently asked questions
Does a 10,000-point lead alone win Tycoon?
No. The official explainer also requires reaching the final Age and maintaining the condition for five minutes.
Can I buy Tycoon Packages repeatedly for the same bonus?
The explainer says the initial bonus is reduced on each purchase and slowly recovers over time; check the current HUD for the active build.
Is this a build order for every civilization?
No. It is a mode-specific planning framework; civilization, map, patch and match settings affect practical choices.

- Age of Empires III: DE Tycoon Mode overview (Official)
World's Edge's Tycoon explainer describes an economy-focused mode: Tycoon Packages unlock at Commerce Age, package bonuses diminish per purchase and recover over time, Economy Challenges reward score, and Economic Victory requires a 10,000-point lead, final Age, and holding the condition for five minutes. This is mode-specific and the page predates newer patches; confirm current in-game rules before relying on balance details. No match was played.
