Browser-local decision note · no village access

Food rationing cost and stop-condition card

Use only the mode, reserve goal and signal you have read in-game.

Mode: Auto

Use the current food panel to confirm what this mode means for your build.

Goal: not entered

Reassess when: not entered

This is a local note, not a reserve-duration calculator. Text clears on reload; it does not save to an account or inspect your village.

Choose the mode from the problem you actually have

The 1.1.5 notes changed food rationing from passive behavior to an explicit Auto/On/Off decision in the food-management display. Auto is described as the former default behavior; On is a conscious restriction with an explicit happiness cost. This is useful when protecting a reserve, but it is not a free way to stretch production.

  1. Open the food-management display and note the current rationing mode. Do not infer the setting from a hunger warning alone.
  2. If the mode is Auto, compare the current stock and food trend shown by your game before changing it. Auto follows the game's automatic behavior described in the patch notes.
  3. If considering On, read the cost first: the developer says villagers go hungry, consume 50% of food and become very unhappy while it is active.
  4. Use On only when the specific reserve or famine plan is worth that documented cost to your settlement. The patch note describes rationing as a way to push through famines or save food for later, not as a universally optimal setting.
  5. Record which reserve you are protecting and what visible signal will tell you to turn rationing back off. Re-check the in-game panel after changing the setting.
  6. If your panel does not show these modes, record your platform/build and consult its matching notes; do not assume a Steam-PC label exists everywhere.

Use the local reserve note, not a prediction

The planner below asks you to record your goal, current rationing mode and the signal you will monitor. It does not model population consumption, spoilage, harvest dates or whether a reserve will last.

  1. Name the reason for the reserve and the current food-panel mode.
  2. Write your own stop condition, such as a threshold shown in the current UI or the next confirmed harvest.
  3. Revisit the panel and turn the decision into a new observation when circumstances change.

Before you play

  • I checked the mode in the food-management display.
  • I understand the documented hunger, 50% consumption and unhappiness cost of On.
  • I defined why I would ration and what visible condition would end it.
  • I did not treat this worksheet as a food forecast.

Frequently asked questions

Does On make villagers consume less while staying happy?

No. The developer's 1.1.5 note says villagers go hungry, consume 50% of food and become very unhappy while rationing is active.

Is Auto the same as Off?

The patch notes identify Auto as the former default behavior and list On/Off as explicit options. Check the current panel's own description for the installed build.

Can this planner predict how long food will last?

No. It stores your own decision notes only and contains no population, spoilage or harvest simulation.
