First identify whether the restriction applies
Do not treat every party error as rank disparity. Epic describes a specific case: an undersized two-player party trying 3v3 Standard or its Standard Tournament. A full three-player party is not the undersized-two case described in that section.
If you are queuing 2v2 or an Extra Mode playlist as a duo, Epic says this rank restriction does not apply. Other playlist, account, server, tournament-window, or matchmaking conditions may still block entry.
| Party and playlist | Is this specific rule in scope? | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Two players, 3v3 Standard | Yes | Compare displayed ranks and current queue message |
| Two players, 3v3 Standard Tournament | Yes, per Epic's article | Check displayed ranks and current tournament availability |
| Two players, 2v2 | No, the article says this restriction does not apply | Read the actual queue error; don't assume rank gap |
| Two players, Extra Mode | No, per Epic's article | Check the selected mode and current in-game notice |
| Three players in 3v3 | Not the undersized two-player case described | Check other current playlist/account requirements |

Count the displayed-rank gap using Epic's example
Use the competitive rank shown to each player, not a guessed hidden rating. Epic's published example is a useful boundary: Platinum 2 versus Diamond 3 is described as four ranks apart and blocked; Platinum 3 versus Diamond 3 is three ranks apart and allowed.
That example helps avoid a common off-by-one mistake: count each division step across the tier boundary. It does not promise the playlist is otherwise open or that every future UI uses identical wording.
| Player A | Player B | Epic example gap | Interpretation for this rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platinum 2 | Diamond 3 | 4 ranks | Outside the stated limit; duo cannot queue 3v3 Standard |
| Platinum 3 | Diamond 3 | 3 ranks | At the stated limit; rank disparity alone should not block this case |

Resolve the block without changing accounts
- Confirm the party really has two members and the exact playlist is 3v3 Standard or its Standard Tournament.
- Have both players read their current displayed Competitive ranks in the playlist context you intend to play.
- Compare the gap with Epic's three-rank rule and its P2/D3 versus P3/D3 examples.
- If outside the limit, choose a playlist the pair can enter or queue with a third teammate; do not try account unlinking or rank resets as a workaround.
- If the pair is within the limit but still blocked, capture the exact non-sensitive message and check Epic's live help page and service notices. Rank progression has no fixed number of games; Epic says wins/losses and match difficulty matter.

Use the local checker as a reminder only
The adjacent browser-local preflight calculates the selected displayed-rank division gap and restates the source scope. It cannot see accounts, MMR, bans, party state, current playlist availability or tournament schedule, and it cannot verify the queue.

Before you play
- Confirm exactly two players are in the party.
- Confirm the playlist is 3v3 Standard or Standard Tournament before applying this rule.
- Compare the two displayed ranks against Epic's three-rank example.
- If scope does not match, troubleshoot the actual in-game error instead of assuming rank disparity.
- Recheck the current Epic article before relying on a change-sensitive matchmaking rule.
Frequently asked questions
Can Platinum 2 and Diamond 3 queue 3v3 Standard as a duo?
Epic's example says no: that pair is four ranks apart, beyond the three-rank limit for an undersized two-player party.
Can Platinum 3 and Diamond 3 queue?
Epic's example says that three-rank gap is allowed for the rank restriction described.
Does this apply to 2v2 or Extra Mode?
Epic explicitly says the restriction does not affect a duo trying to queue 2v2 or Extra Mode.
Does a within-limit result guarantee matchmaking entry?
No. It only addresses this rank-disparity rule. The checker cannot see playlist availability, account status, tournament windows, server state or other restrictions.
