Check party compatibility before changing network settings
The support guide describes Steam/Epic crossplay, optional participation and linked-account invitations. A successful account link alone is not enough if the players selected different crossplay states.
| Party state | Expected check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| All Steam, crossplay off | Keep all party members in the same off pool | Use ordinary Steam invites |
| Steam and Epic, crossplay on | Each player opts in; restart after toggling | Link accounts if using account-based invites |
| One opted in, one opted out | 2K says the pools cannot play together | Align setting on all clients and restart |
| Console included | Not covered by the Steam/Epic article | Check the current platform-specific compatibility notice |

Build a reproducible invite check
Do not start by changing router/firewall settings when the party may simply be in different matchmaking pools. Record DLC and current client versions too, because later content updates can affect compatibility.
- List each player's platform/storefront and displayed game build.
- Ask all Steam players whether crossplay is enabled; make sure the chosen setting is consistent across the party.
- If changing it, restart the game as 2K instructs, then re-open multiplayer.
- For a Steam/Epic party, link accounts only if you intend to use linked-account invitations; do not share credentials.
- Invite through the supported lobby/in-game route and record the exact failure message.
- If still blocked, compare the current 2K support page and submit a platform/build matrix; treat Steam forum replies as anecdotal.
