Local scenario arithmetic

Plan map scale and session time

Official custom-difficulty notes describe 3×3–12×12 Survival maps, tiles of 256×256 meters, a 15-minute-or-longer main phase, and warmup up to 3.5 hours. This planner only multiplies your settings; it does not simulate waves, difficulty, travel time, performance or a winning build.

36 map tiles · approximate tile-grid span 1,536 m per side

Warmup + main phase: 20 + 90 = 110 min (1.8 h).

A larger map is described as more demanding for the PC. Tile span is a map-generation scale, not a measured walk distance, FPS forecast or promise of square boundaries in other modes.

Choose Survival settings by the run you want

EXOR's custom-difficulty announcement describes Survival as a randomized tile map with a selectable map size, warmup and main duration. Bigger maps contain more tiles and are explicitly described as more demanding for the PC. The developer's later Q&A explains a 90-minute Survival main phase and an initial warmup; the old number is context, not a requirement if your installed menu offers custom values.

  1. Open the current Survival/custom-difficulty settings and confirm you are changing the Survival mode, not assuming Campaign missions use the same square map.
  2. Choose the map side first. A larger side increases tile count quadratically, so compare side lengths rather than treating each step as one extra tile.
  3. Set warmup to the time you want for locating the HQ area and establishing an initial base; the developer says longer warmup gives more setup time.
  4. Choose the main-phase duration or endless option if offered by the current build, then re-read the selected values before launching.

Read the planner output as arithmetic, not a build recommendation

For a selected side n, this page calculates n × n tiles. It also multiplies n by the developer's stated 256-meter tile span for a rough grid scale, then adds warmup and finite main duration. The calculation does not turn that span into a walkable boundary: the game stitches authored tiles into a randomized play area.

Example inputDirect calculationWhat it tells you
6×6 map6 × 6 = 36 tilesTile count only; not route length
6×6 plus 20 min warmup6 × 256 = 1,536 m approximate tile-grid span; 20 min setupScale and selected setup time, not travel time
20 min warmup + 90 min main phase20 + 90 = 110 minutesPlanned settings total, not a guarantee that a run ends on schedule
Endless main phaseNo finite total is calculatedMain phase is unbounded; warmup remains a separate choice

Adjust one pressure at a time

The official announcement also describes custom difficulty options and example presets. Do not treat the planner as a difficulty rating: enemies, building costs, research, wave multipliers, warmup and player count can interact. Use the game's current controls and change a small set of variables per attempt so you can tell what changed.

Limits and useful reporting

The settings article dates from 2025 and the developer has continued shipping updates; verify option names and available ranges in your installed version. The 2026 developer Q&A describes future work on Survival, so its roadmap is not a live patch tracker.

  1. If your menu does not match the cited range, trust the installed game menu and note its build rather than forcing the article's values.
  2. For a reproducible settings issue, include mode, platform, build, map side, warmup, duration and any custom multipliers.
  3. Use the in-game feedback route or a clearly labelled community discussion; do not present another player's post as a tested fix.

Before you play

  • Verify Survival mode and installed build.
  • Choose map side, warmup and main duration separately.
  • Use the local planner only for tile count, approximate tile-grid scale and setting arithmetic.
  • Record other difficulty multipliers independently.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 6×6 map mean a 1,536-meter walk?

No. It is 6×6 tiles and 6×256 meters as a rough tile-grid span from the cited dimensions, not a measured route or guaranteed world boundary.

Does this predict how hard the final wave will be?

No. It does not simulate waves, enemy multipliers, base design, co-op coordination or weapon choices.

Is the developer's 90-minute duration mandatory?

The Q&A uses 90 minutes to describe Survival. EXOR's custom-difficulty article describes configurable main duration; check the current settings menu.
