Choose the console operation before touching a save
A cloud backup, all-at-once Switch 2 System Transfer, and a one-title save transfer are not interchangeable. Nintendo's support page lists Scarlet/Violet among titles without Save Data Cloud support as of November 27, 2025. The same page says a non-cloud save may still be moved with Transfer Your Save Data; Nintendo's Switch 2 setup page separately confirms a non-cloud title such as Scarlet/Violet can be carried over by System Transfer.
| Your situation | Documented route to inspect | What to protect |
|---|---|---|
| You are setting up a new Switch 2 and want the console's users/settings moved | System Transfer during Switch 2 initial setup | Read the current local-communication vs temporary-server route; do not initialize or surrender the source system until you understand its exact prompts |
| You want only the Scarlet/Violet save on another nearby Switch-family console | Transfer Your Save Data for the selected user/title | It is a move, not a copy; the source save is removed after completion |
| The original console is unavailable or broken | Stop and contact Nintendo Support before experimenting | The published NSO cloud list excludes the title; GamerWin cannot restore a missing save |
| You only want to move individual Pokémon, not story progress | Use Pokémon HOME's Pokémon-storage workflow separately | HOME Pokémon storage is not a substitute for transferring the Scarlet/Violet game save |

For one save, use the move—not-copy—preflight
Nintendo's nearby Transfer Your Save Data requires both consoles, an internet connection and the same Nintendo Account linked to a user on each system. It does not require a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Sending removes that save from the source; on the receiving console, an existing save for the same software may be overwritten only after a prompt. Treat that prompt as a stop point if the target save matters.
- Confirm that the title screen identifies the intended source console, user and Scarlet or Violet edition; do not infer ownership from a cartridge or HOME account alone.
- Update both consoles and place them nearby with internet access. Confirm the source and target users are linked to the same Nintendo Account, as Nintendo requires.
- On the source, open System Settings → Data Management → Transfer Your Save Data → Send Save Data to Another Console. Select the exact user and Scarlet/Violet save.
- On the target, open System Settings → Data Management → Transfer Your Save Data → Receive Save Data. Stop if the selected title, user or target is not the one you intended.
- If Nintendo warns that a target save already exists, cancel unless you deliberately intend to replace it and understand that overwritten data cannot be recovered.
- After the transfer reports completion, launch the target copy and confirm the expected trainer/save. Only then decide whether to archive, reset or repurpose the source console.

For Switch 2 setup, distinguish local and temporary-server transfer
Nintendo says System Transfer is available during initial setup of Switch 2 and explicitly supports save data for a non-cloud title such as Scarlet/Violet. Its page offers a local-communication path when both consoles are available and a temporary server-based path for people who will give up their old console first. The server path has separate consequences for the source system; do not treat it as a normal cloud save or use it casually just to duplicate a save. Follow Nintendo's current setup screen and its full transferable/non-transferable data list.
- If both consoles are available, read Nintendo's local-communication System Transfer steps on the source and target before starting Switch 2 initial setup.
- If the old console will be surrendered before Switch 2 arrives, read the temporary-server transfer instructions fully. Do not upload until you understand when the source system is initialized and how long the transfer can be retrieved.
- Do not substitute an NSO cloud restore: Nintendo's listed Scarlet/Violet exception is dated and specifically distinguishes cloud save support from system/save transfer.
- Once setup finishes, launch Scarlet/Violet on Switch 2 and check the expected user and save. Keep the old system intact until that check is complete if you chose a route that leaves it usable.

Use the browser checklist as a stop/go aid
The local planner below routes only from your answers. It cannot query Nintendo services, read an eShop entitlement, inspect a console, determine whether a save is healthy, or create a copy. A green result means only that the selected route's stated prerequisites appear satisfied; it is not a recovery guarantee.

Before you play
- Identify whether you need all-at-once Switch 2 System Transfer or only a one-title save move.
- Do not rely on NSO cloud backup for Scarlet/Violet without checking Nintendo's live support list and the game's eShop details.
- For an individual save move, keep both consoles nearby, verify the same linked Nintendo Account, and remember no NSO membership is required.
- Cancel rather than overwrite any target save you want to keep.
- Verify the destination save in-game before resetting, trading in or repurposing the source console.
Frequently asked questions
Does a Nintendo Switch Online subscription back up Scarlet/Violet?
Nintendo's published exception list names Pokémon Scarlet and Violet as not supporting Save Data Cloud as of November 27, 2025. Recheck Nintendo's live page and the game's eShop details because the list can change.
Can I move only one Scarlet/Violet save without NSO?
Nintendo's Transfer Your Save Data instructions say a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Both systems, internet and users linked to the same Nintendo Account are required; the save is moved, not copied.
Can Pokémon HOME restore my trainer, story and map progress?
Do not treat HOME as a game-save backup. Pokémon Support says the Scarlet/Violet save must be present on the same console where HOME is launched to link that game; the HOME guides here concern Pokémon compatibility/storage, not story-save recovery.
What if the original console is gone?
The official cloud-save exception list means an NSO restore should not be assumed. Stop before trying unofficial recovery methods and contact Nintendo Support with proof of ownership; GamerWin cannot promise a recoverable copy.

- Nintendo Support: Save Data Cloud support and exclusions (Official)
Nintendo's live support page checked November 6, 2026. Its explicit list says Pokémon Scarlet and Violet do not support Save Data Cloud as of November 27, 2025. That is the date Nintendo attaches to the published exception list, not a guarantee that the list can never change; recheck the page and the software's eShop details before a future move.
- Nintendo Support: Nintendo Switch 2 System Transfer (Official)
Nintendo's Switch-to-Switch 2 System Transfer instructions checked November 6, 2026. They explicitly answer that a non-cloud-save title such as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can be carried over. The all-at-once System Transfer is available during Switch 2 initial setup; read the current local-communication and temporary-server paths separately because their source-console consequences differ.
- Nintendo Support: Transfer Your Save Data to a Nearby Console (Official)
Nintendo's individual-save transfer instructions checked November 6, 2026. They cover Nintendo Switch-family consoles, say Nintendo Switch Online is not required, require the same Nintendo Account linked to users on both systems and an internet connection, and warn that the save is moved rather than copied. If the target already has save data for the title, continuing with overwrite deletes that target save.
- Pokémon Support: Pokémon HOME on Nintendo Switch 2 FAQs (Official)
Pokémon Support's Switch 2 HOME FAQ checked November 6, 2026. It says Scarlet/Violet save data must be present on the same console where HOME is launched for HOME to link to that game. Its transfer note distinguishes local communication from the temporary server route; confirm the current on-screen prompts before moving data.
